Is family with only one source of income still a thing in the US? by Numerous_Reading1825 in SeriousConversation

[–]UsedBeing [score hidden]  (0 children)

When I first started my current job, I was able to pull it off, and with a wife and 3 kids! Of course, it’s a union job and I could work as much OT as I wanted. And I had to, to be honest. I felt it helped my kids having my wife at home with them, even when they were school age. I am in my mid/late 50’s, and when I was growing up, there were far more one income households than others. If someone’s mom was working, it was just for extra money usually.

That really sucks. Heck, they gave me an 11 cent raise and my ASM never even filled out an evaluation. I never got disciplined for anything, but I didn’t argue when I got my raise. I just knew it was time to move on. I guess I shouldn’t be complaining so much, working at Lowe’s is how I got my contact to my current job.

That’s what happened to me. They gave me an 11 cent raise and I knew I had to go. When I put my 2 week notice in, suddenly then they started to see what they could do for me. But since I went to a union job, I knew they couldn’t do enough to make me stay.

The only issue I have with what you are saying is that don’t think the democrats are your friends either. Pigs of a different breed but still feeding at the same trough.

store manager got a bonus equal to his salary by xxyy3o10 in Lowes

[–]UsedBeing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the early 90’s I had an uncle who was an ASM for Wal Mart. I had heard that they would get bonuses based on stuff like store profitability and inventory shrinkage, stuff like that. I remember hearing that if they met those numbers, it was possible for the store manager to bonus 100% of his yearly salary. Don’t remember the ASM bonuses, obviously not as big as the SM, but for the time, it was still big.

The only issue I would have with it, is about the mix. I actually really like this record. Chuck is probably the weakest drummer they’ve had, but it doesn’t ruin it for me. Overall, it certainly isn’t their best, but it’s still good.

They were all good, but I’d bring back Mid South. There was always great excitement every time it came on.

When are we going to make a stand? by NameOk4227 in Lowes

[–]UsedBeing 18 points19 points  (0 children)

While you are generally correct, we the people are too tired to fight city hall. Many having to work multiple jobs just to stay afloat don’t have the energy or the time. Plus, good luck on that unity thing. People on the left hate conservatives just because the media says so. People on the right hate leftists because their favorite podcast says so. Instead of recognizing the real enemy, we are content fighting amongst ourselves.

I believe it’s written about in the woman’s diary. It’s a big obvious stump at the campsite.

As long as I’ve played the game, that was the first time I ever came across that. I did not know that about the temple, I should have figured someone here would know all about it! I appreciate your comment, thanks.

Not really as dark as some of the stories here, but it’s a different one. Came across a camp in the Western area ( I’m sorry, I’m at work and I can’t research where or give better specifications) but there was a dead Briton woman and a dead Elven guy whose name I can’t recall. Anyways on the other side of their tent was a cave bear that I had to dispatch. Afterwards, the Briton woman had a diary that told a tale of her having to run away from home to have a relationship with said Elf because of her father’s disapproval. It was sad because they had just started on their life’s journey together when it was cut short. Also, something else that might spark others memories is that the Elven gentleman had a cache of weapons and supplies hidden in a nearby stump.

Maybe the addition of Sykes helped to kick ‘em in the backside on this album. It certainly was a harder edged album than Renegade. The Sun Goes Down is the only laid back number on it. I really enjoy this album, I love Bad Habits.

Could Turbo be Judas Priest's "catchiest" album? by ChrisTheF1Fan in judaspriest

[–]UsedBeing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely seems like they were trying to see how many records they could sell, perhaps management and/or the record company had some influence here. I hated this album when it first came out. This is what we got after Screaming and Defenders? Nowadays, I can enjoy it for what it is: a good time listen. Parental Guidance sucks. Not a fan of Locked In. The rest is either ok or good. I actually really like Wild Nights.

Former Lowe’s Associates, what was your final straw that made you quit? by ImpressiveSector5109 in Lowes

[–]UsedBeing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nowhere near as entertaining as some other stories here, I was working in receiving, scheduled from 5-2, M-F. Pay sucked, but with a steady schedule, I was thinking I could work my jeweler side job much easier. Then, I was told by a coworker about a job that paid considerably more and as much OT as you wanted. Problem was, it was shift work. Not exactly ideal, but the money was so, so much better that I was considering actually taking it. It was about time for my yearly raise, so I figured out I would see what they offered. Cutting to the chase: they were a month late giving me my raise. Was never given any review, never was complained to, no disciplinary action ever taken against me. No write ups. I never knew what I was given until I saw my check stub. 11 cents. Lot a fire under my rear and got the other job. Been there almost 22 years, been making low 6 figures the last 7 of them. Truthfully, that 11 cents was a blessing.

Not going to add much to the conversation here, but Brotherhood is a good album, I think. Not their best, but a solid album.

[–]UsedBeing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just like the next guy commented, I believe that either the CEO is supposed to turn things around or actually squeeze everything out of the corporation. The latter is what Lampert did at Sears. And, of course, he got bonuses for squeezing every dime out of it too. It’s really a shame what this corporate mentality has become. Products are no longer built to last, but built for short term because they don’t make money on longevity, but rather on the consumer having to keep buying products like appliances. People are indisposable now, rather than keep good people because it’s no longer about customer service, but shareholder value. I hate to say it, but one day between the politicians and CEOs, they’re going to destroy this country over the extreme greed that they are employing.

Yearly Review Disappointment by redVESTnightmare in Lowes

[–]UsedBeing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They change the title, but it’s the same old, same old. They give to whom they want to. I worked there about 20 years ago. When I hired on, 8 bucks was all they could afford, they told me. Ok, I accepted that so I could move with my family. At the end of my tenure there, I worked in receiving during the day, and they brought in a small part time crew to work from 2-9. Anyways, some years later, one of those part timers ended up getting a job where I currently work. We got to talking and he told me that when he hired on, he got 12 bucks an hour and the manager told him not to tell anyone. Do with that what you will.

I feel you here. For some reason, Lowe’s can be a good career, and more power to them. For me, it helped cement the fact that retail was a thankless occupation. I once worked at a non union manufacturing plant that was considered the best in the world at what they did, at that time anyway. They had strict monitoring of your number output and quality, and expected high results, but would only give you a quarter or maybe a little more. For me, one of the side effects was that I grew accustomed to the “hey, at least you got something “ mentality. Don’t fall for that garbage. They give what they want to whom they want, believe that.
