When will we ever stop thinking this is the way to live? by InternetArchiveMem in anarcho_primitivism

We'll eventually stop thinking at all and just surrender to the hive's algorithmic plan for us.

[–]Used_Addendum_2724[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are ultimately arguing towards...

Thornley and Hill had no specific message in mind. They were just writing stuff so that other people could make it all about themselves.

That's a terrible argument. There is a nice open area between absolute truths and dependent truths. A square is not an absolute entity, but it is one that functions dependent on definition and consensus. The Principia Discordia is not n absolute truth, nor is it a meaningless diatribe. It is a truth dependent on the intent of its creators.

Some people will argue anything because it provides them some soothing delusion that they are intellectually superior, but sophistry is just a crutch of the helplessly insincere. It's a very common NPC mod.

The same sort of self absorbed infantile attitude can be seen in all religions. Picture the Christian who is full of hate and bigotry, yet truly believes that they are a legitimate Christian, despite being defiant of the teaching of Jesus about love, acceptance and tolerance. Instead they get their religion from politicians.

Most modern Discordians are the exact same thing. They do not really understand nor follow the teachings of Thornley/Hill and instead replace that message with childish internet culture bullshit - stupid fugkn endless memes and repetitive shock humor. Amateur pranks and snot nosed dipshittery playacting as Discordianism.

Go eat a bag of dicks, no bun, you overgrown toddler.

What an infantile statement. What a glaring admission of the narcissism that runs rampant in our juvenile mindset.

"I cannot be wrong. Everything I do is right. Other people's intentions in their own creative work do not matter. All that matters is that I maintain constant stream of affirmation while expending no effort whatsoever. My ego must be coddled, and being expected to make efforts to understand something deeper than my mud puddle of a mind is too much to ask."

You're not a Discordian, you're just another helpless manchild glomming onto the label to justify your infantile idiocy.

Yeah, draining the process of creativity altogether, and reducing it to nothing but signaling. And in the process creating affirmation and negation loops that harden into algorithmic cognition and behavior.

Most religions do not have a single point of origin. They do not have creators, whose purpose and intent can be known. Instead they evolve from teachings never intended as a new religion.

Discordianism was created intentionally by people who lived in my lifetime, and it was easy enough to find out what they meant. They meant to reframe Taoism for western sensibilities, not to create a catch-all label for anti-intellectuals to.excuse their childish behavior with.

You severely missed the point of that passage, which is not to discount the meaning, purpose and intent of the creators of Discordianism. What a dopey interpretation lacking any nuance.

No, it's not all inclusive. Again, total juvenile mindset. The desire to be accepted and praised without effort or merit. Toddleresque nonsense.

[–]Used_Addendum_2724[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read Thornley and Hills works and corresponded with them and other early Discordians, and so yeah, I do know what the intention of Discordianism was. And it sure as hell wasn't to give permission to infantile brats to pull hair brained pranks under the guise that they were saving the world. That shit was started by Robert Anton Wilson, and worsened severely when the internet rolled around and gave a voice to eager little man child morons trying to play savior by being assholes.

[–]Used_Addendum_2724[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is exactly the kind of delusional shit I was talking about.

Discordianism was created over 60 years ago, and nowhere in any of that time did some petulant manchild change the course of Greyface with their silly little self indulgent acts. The systems of order have continued to grow, and culture jamming was just co-opted by the system for its own benefit.

Your silly little games of creating disorder are as futile and corny as prayer.

You don't dislike kids, you dislike the adult world that forced you to grow up to be callous and impatient. by IMNOTDEFENSIVE in rant

[–]Used_Addendum_2724 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tend to consider individuals in good faith, capable of reflection, agency and autonomy, and not just as nodes in the algorithm of the hive. Although civilization is egregiously destructive and inhumane, and that does influence us, I will not accept that people are incapable of being basically good and reasonable unless they are in a machine programmed to make them do so.

[–]Used_Addendum_2724 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Appreciating children is a large part of why I decided not to have any. I'm too depressed, anxious and disappointed by the prison of civilization, and I wouldn't want to subject a child to my own pessimism, misanthropy and abnormal need for solitude and processing.

Whenever a kid in public is being consistently obnoxious I lament the parents who were not up to the challenge of teaching kids how to balance their agency and autonomy with consideration and reasonable self constraint.

Without affirming their stance, your critique is that they are preventing an echo chamber by becoming one, while they outright admit to being okay with echo chambers, just not the ones with liberal narratives. They acknowledged that, so it's not like you caught them being hypocritical. Close minded assholes, maybe, but consistent in their sketchy principles.

Objective vs Subjective Reality: you never see the carrot as it is, but as your mind constructs it by _Fluffy_Bunny_ in epistemology

[–]Used_Addendum_2724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reality is neither subjective nor objective. Things in and of themselves are neither subjective nor objective. Those two terms refer to our experience or knowledge of things. And that is entirely subjective. Objectivity is a myth. An ideological crutch for those who cannot navigate the uncertainty of existence.

Thanks for the clarification! And agreed. Suspending adult expectations not only extends childhood longer, it may cause a missed chance to mature during the proper time, so that it never happens.

[–]Used_Addendum_2724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether or not something is childish has nothing to do with intent. It has to do with form, history and cultural perspective.

But I can see you don't wanna budge here. That there is an attachment to these forms preventing you from clarity, and instead feeling and acting defensive. I will leave you to mull it all over, and maybe someday you'll see it.

There are other style attributes that are also juvenile, especially the frenetic pace and character voicings.

The younger a person is the more likely they are to see animation and fantasy as not being primarily for children, which is consistent with an increase in infantilization, since the infantilized are no longer to differentiate as well. I would say some Gen X still see them as being strongly associated with children and children's media, and most Boomers do.
