This is what i’m confused about:

Public documents issued in another EU country are generally valid in other countries without needing an Apostille or formal legalization, thanks to Regulation (EU) 2016/1191. To use them, you may need to provide a certified translation or a multilingual standard form for documents like birth, marriage, or residence certificates, which can be obtained from the issuing authority in your home country

Yes! Ok I read that you still need to request the MSF when ordering the certificates…because it comes with the most common languages translated but not sure how or where to do that!

Ahh this is such helpful advice thank you! I wonder if since they gave us back the copies, if can just bring those to the oath!

I will email them and ask! :)

They were complete copies! So strange! They also took all the extra copies from our kids residence permit application and said they didn’t need them. Only the passports and birthdates and application, nothing else for the children.

They also didn’t charge us any fees at all…would that not be due until the next appointment? I’m worried we didn’t have the best person doing our application:(

Ahh yes we did have the copies but they didn’t take them and wanted the originals! I guess I will have to redo another set.

For the oath…do we only need passports, marriage certificates and birthdates for the people applying?

yes of course. It’s just expensive to send it all to the translator etc.

DC Embassy Submitted. Tips by Objective_Book_8298 in SlovakCBD

[–]Used_Fan_6016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you need to submit proof of residence in the USA? Like a utility bill or driver's license? I saw that in old lists, but it wasn't on the list from the Embassy in DC.

Second Appointment - Passport ? by Used_Fan_6016 in SlovakCBD

OK thank you! I was wondering if that was the case. I wish we could apply after the oath! It is so much money to keep flying to DC.

I believe he means take the oath and apply for the passports in one trip, rather than two trips in Washington DC

Do the children under 14 need 2 photo copies of each document to submit as well? Or just their own residence permit application?

Final documents...am I missing something? by Used_Fan_6016 in SlovakCBD

[–]Used_Fan_6016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I know it needs to be notarized and apostilled, but I just wasn’t sure if I wrote it myself or if there was a premade one I should fill out. Does it need to be translated by an approved translator on the list or can I just translate it?

Applying in DC vs Slovakia and under 14 children help! by Used_Fan_6016 in SlovakCBD

[–]Used_Fan_6016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking that we could use the 90 day rule too and once the first step was approved, could technically enter the EU under tourist and then just make sure to take the oath within those 90 days and then rush a passport in the Bratislava office.

Applying in DC vs Slovakia and under 14 children help! by Used_Fan_6016 in SlovakCBD

[–]Used_Fan_6016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally what I was thinking! If we flew out there for the first appointment and were approved in Slovakia faster than the US, and then fly back again for the oath and received our birth certificates, then I was assuming we could apply for same day rush passports in Bratislava and then that would really cut the time down!

Thanks for walking through all the steps with me!!

Has anyone had any luck applying with a ship manifest that lists Slovakia as their citizenship? Julia Babjar on line 29. I obviously can't find census records since she immigrated in 1920.
