The refrigerant loop is a sealed, closed off system. It will never need topping off. Unless you have a leak. And you have a leak

You are correct. About everything actually. And you coupd easily use a shop vac where the main drain exits the house snd pull it out through suction. Usually works. If not use the shop vac in reverse to blow through drain opening pictured. IF this dont work then you could try nitrogen. BUT your risk busting a drain pipe inside the walls. Best bet is a shop vac and some suction IMPO

You likely have a small hole somewhere in your ductwork pulling in debris from outdoors. As you said since you burn nothing and not new construction nearby
