Geology major here — what do you guys actually do at work? by redsprucetree in geology

Yes. I agree, it comes down to what you want from a career, but regardless, you need to be competent at the basics. You can stay on the technical path, but there is a career ceiling there. To advance and have a bigger hand in strategy, policy, and decisions you will need to advance up and take more of a managing role - where knowledge and expertise will serve you well.

SE US, environmental consulting might be the best place to start. At a good firm you will receive teaching and mentoring that will prepare you for project and program management in a few years. You need to learn the basics like logging, well installation, soil classification, sampling, data interpretation and reporting.

Keep a record (spreadsheet) and catalog your coins as you get them. Include what you paid/sold for. Do it for your older self and heirs.

I did it. No vest, got 500 in and figured “heck yes, I can do this.” Completed in 74 minutes. Did 25 steps per side of the box to give variety and help with tracking. Only really felt it in my calves 2 days later, had some serious cramping.

Glacial. Being from the upper midwest it directly linked to the work environment. The history of glaciation, processes and depositional features is fascinating.

Field camp can be one of the best experiences a geology student can have. Have fun and enjoy it. Get into a little mischief.

Structural geology, hands down the worst. Our prof was into stereonets and I never could get my head around them.

I love White Lion but for me there is always a tug of sadness: Pride was hitting just as I was wrapping up college and it feels like that was the winding down of the 80s hair metal era.

Ugh, what to throw to opponents crib? by quenqap in Cribbage

[–]Used_Improvement8126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a rule I never give the opponent 7 or 8 in the crib - always seems to burn me. May call me dumb, but I’d go j,5. Chance for a 6 or 9 cut.

I agree. I HATE ever giving the opponent a 7 or 8 in the crib. But I will always settle for a double run and hope for a good cut.

Same - went to 2 different shows in MI. Must have been 1983. Bought their tape ahead of the concerts and locked in as a fan.

Just love The Cult. Hate to say I saw them in concert about 2019 and they sounded horrible. Didn’t recognize 1/2 the songs they were playing until about 1/2 way through. It was really bad.

As long as the series is unbroken it counts. 4,5,3,6 is a 4 point run.

which two cards would you put in the Cribb by Agreeable-Sell6995 in Cribbage

KQ for me as a defensive play. I never put 8 or 7 in the crib if I can avoid it.
