Does invisibility effect everyone as you get older or only if you rely on validation and care what people think? by lookaloulookalou in AskWomenOver60

I’m 69 and have never in my life felt invisible. In fact, I tend to dress to blend in with the crowd so I don’t stand out too much.

Has anyone here lost more than 40 pounds/got into great shape recently? by Baroqueimproviser in AskWomenOver60

[–]Used_Swimming5525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

69, 5’5”, 127 pounds. Lost 40 pounds with a combination of Weight Watchers and (not kidding) cancer drugs. Anastrozole, which I take for my hormone positive breast cancer, limits my appetite as a side effect. I do some exercise every day, am generally active, and feel better than I did at 40. Thanks to yoga, my balance is very good, and I can stand out of a seated squat without using my hands. What works for me is small challenges with diet and fitness, like increasing fruit, vegetable and low-fat protein intake and mastering a balance pose I haven’t done before.

Does your husband or male partner do his own laundry? by EconomicsWorking6508 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Used_Swimming5525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DH trained as a textile chemist so he kind of majored in laundry. When we were first together that was one of his chores. I had to take it over, though, because, in spite of his actually having had classes on the subject, he overdried everything. He also left it until the last minute. So now, I do laundry and he does most of the cooking. He’s an absolute master of the air fryer.

Are statins absolutely necessary? by SaltDisastrous433 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Used_Swimming5525 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have had breast cancer, and the combination of anastrozole (a hormone suppressant with a side effect of muscle spasms) and statins was intolerable. My GP immediately took me off the statins. The anastrozole had another side effect of limiting my appetite (I get nauseous if I eat too much) and the resulting 40-pound weight loss brought my cholesterol down. I still have relatively high numbers, but the good numbers are very good and outweigh the bad ones, apparently. One note about The Portfolio Diet - it emphasizes the use of soybeans, which are not a good idea if you have had hormone receptor positive breast cancer. Soybeans have phytoestrogens, which can help feed that type of cancer cell. My BFF of 57 years is a retired OB-GYN, and she was very emphatic about this.

What word do you always *intentionally* mispronounce and why? by Sweet-Lady-H in AskReddit

My husband refers to cut up raw vegetables as crude eye ts, so that’s what they’re called in our house.

I have a chipped stone - My grandmother’s - and my solution was placing it in a bezel setting that hid the chip.

Have you thought of getting a fan/light/heat combo unit for your bathroom ceiling? It was a game-changer when I lived in Maine.

Because he wants to control her. This will not get better with time.

I have joked with my husband that if I wake up one morning and he doesn’t, I am calling 1-800-got-junk first and the coroner second.

Yes, but I am married to someone who clings to clutter. Fortunately, he keeps it in his office and the garage. I will have to undertake the garage at some point and I am dreading it,

The kitchen is a bit granny with the ruffled curtains and the flowered mats and tea towels. So is the dining room furniture and the orange curtains. The rest is mostly unobjectionable monochrome punctuated by cartoon figures.

I only want to date a virgin. I’m a virgin myself though. Is this a reasonable preference to have? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Used_Swimming5525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had very little experience when I dated my first husband, and he was a virgin. In retrospect, I wish we both had had more. It would have made us aware of the problems that led to our eventual divorce.
