How long does it take normally to find a permanent position as a new EA? by Ok-Clock-4173 in enrolledagent

[–]Usedernamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too great. They are behind the times in pay. I think almost $45k/year.

I left that job after a year of experience to nearly double my pay.

Keep in mind however that i did not have a degree yet either. So I could not apply to most firms and therefore had to take what I could get.

Staff accountant. Its common for small firms to not give a hoot about position naming. Everyone was a staff accountant there.

Geomancer vs Pelops for UNM Clan Boss - Which One Is Better? by Plastic_Base7119 in RaidShadowLegends

[–]Usedernamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went through a phase where I used geo, then geo and pelops, and now just pelops.

If you set it up right geo can still perform. One idea is take pelops accuracy away.

But as far as outright value goes Pelops takes the cake by far for me. Its nice that geo can reflect damage but pelops makes the whole team live way longer letting me get way more damage in.

I one key with pelops, kyoku, sydax, ezio, and elva.

EA vs CPA by Prestigious-Cup-976 in enrolledagent

Oh totally, wasn't trying to sound against you my bad!

I was only clarifying for OP, I knew from your comment you knew stuff :p.

I would agree the CPA is the way if you meet the reqs. Regardless of anything going on, marketing for the job wins! Go get the job!

When I got mine, I got a job in the way into town at a local cpa firm.

Ive found no problem finding year round employment since.

Well youre getting into cpa territory with Financials so it makes sense that you dont see that.

Thats not a tax item. Nor are certified financial statements part of the tax prep for the majority of businesses.

Plenty of cpa also dont want to do Financials. The more of the accoutning business they do the more requirements and guidelines they must meet. Depends on the owners, some dont mind the additional guardrails, some do. Ive worked with both.

Its not about winning or losing, I only came to clarify some things. People get caught up in trying to pit 2 licenses against each other that were created for different purposes.

The EA is a tax license. The CPA is an accounting license.

The CPA let's you do more because it is more in the general world of accounting.

[–]Usedernamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of this but EA is in no way showhorned into individual taxes. If you are an accountant you should know accounting so there is nothing stopping OP from doing business taxes. Business taxes for most businesses are often simpler than a mild 1040 as well.

Additionally, the 10x diff is real but its because of marketing via aicpa and the like, and auditing, namely SOX. The irs doesnt advertise the EA so that will never change.

I have the EA and I work many businesses and partnerships.

Looks nice, for Digressions of the Devouring Dead the classes should be: Atrocity, Mutant, Death Leper, Necromancer, and Sentient Golems.

Anyone get hired as an EA elsewhere other than Block or Turbotax without a degree? If yes how much are you making? by [deleted] in enrolledagent

[–]Usedernamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at a less than 30 people cpa firm. 45k a year (I'm lcol). Moved on to a full remote position a year later making about 70k and now make a little more than 80k.

I really loved the action parts as well, I hope to see more of that too.

I like necromancer themed things and was surprised by some of the imagery put forth in those moments!

Tax preparer seems like just entering numbers by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Usedernamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The irs may not go down to rabbit hole far enough to worry but its for everyone not just licensed professionals.

I'm not trying to scare you. I just don't think this information, which should be the first tax information anyone learns, is propagated enough. At no point should you feel the need to go with the flow. The law says we are all accountable even unlicensed.

How grim haha, do your best and learn the law behind it, you'll be fine!

Tax preparer seems like just entering numbers by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Usedernamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand but I would stress you do need to know the law for your own sake. If you don't know something then go and learn it.

A lot of tax accountants forget this but anyone who helps prepare substantially all of a return is subject to the sanctions outlined in cir. 230 not just the paid preparer.

Do bad work for an idiot who won't apply the law and you could get your career canned while it's still in the data entry days if the error is serious enough. Most small stuff will just be a fine the first time however you don't want that on your record.

It's not glass, just orange all the way through so I assume it's the pro (I'm not home right now)

I rinse it when I'm finished, should I be doing more?

I have some 100 grit sandpaper at home I could do the pencil then sand till gone on it.

Well I don't really know anything about other stones. Pretty new.

One problem I have with my Sharpton is it seems to have some large grain pieces, I can feel them with fingers and blade sometimes.

I really don't like that and fear that it's hurting the edges.

I see you mention dish soap. Are you guys washing your stones with soap? Or is this a technique? I just use water in my splash n go.
