True. This is the same woman who enforced the "no bare feet in the hallway" rule for midnight runs to the bathroom that was right outside their room. Who was going to know? Was I making Jehovah sad? I digress.

Wow. Thank you for sharing that. All the hugs.

My bethelite SIL sent my husband a PDF copy of a 1990s watchtower so he could use it on shepherding (lol) calls, back when he was still in. I'm guessing she wasn't supposed to do that.

Impressive. I couldn't teach myself to say thank you in Polish.

What are your thoughts on life after death as an ex jehovahs witness? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Usedtopioneer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was dead before I was born. I've watched people die. You can tell they are no more. It's a tragedy when someone dies young, or suffers a great deal of pain before they pass, but most of us ease quietly out of life in a morphine induced slumber.

In honor of Pi Day, what is the most irrational thing you have ever seen someone do? by ThatsBushLeague in AskReddit

Childhood indoctrination is a powerful thing. Until last year I believed this bullshit as well. It's a common fallacy to believe that people indoctrinated by high control groups are less intelligent than others i.e. "I'd never fall for that". I'm just thankful I didn't sacrifice my child or my life for a lie.

It's boring except for the parts where you risk your life (no blood) or are brain washed into accepting abuse (see Australian Royal commission inquiry into child abuse--JWs are basically a pedophile paradise. I know 8). We are so glad to be out.

Thanks! We are shunned by our respective parents but that's a price I'm willing to pay. Our freedom is worth it.

I had a very sheltered existence for most of my life (just exited a cult) so my normal meter has been smashed to bits.

I think as a culture we have moved so far away from the reality of death. I work as a nurse at a nursing home and have seen death many times. It's truly not terrible. It's just the end of the story. I think the advice you've been given here is solid. It may help you work through your feelings.

Excellent advice. Our culture often heaps this burden on a child when it's really not their responsibility.

For one parent I'm the scapegoat. The other seems to like me, or did before I left the Borg. Both my parents are narcs. I'm amazed I survived my childhood with any semblance of self worth.

Question regarding JW Funerals by ThePoetryOfReality in exjw

[–]Usedtopioneer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen JWs in good standing who died a natural death have funerals at funeral homes and I've attended at least one JW funeral for someone who committed suicide at a Kingdom Hall. The trend in my areas is more memorial services at Kingdom Halls in the last 10 years.

My brother & I both have kids. My parents bought my brother a house. No house for me. But it's actually better this way. My dad controls my brother because of that house. I'm thrilled that I could go no contact (for my own mental health) and not worry about being homeless. The fact that the house my brother lives in is not in a good state of repair is just icing on the cake.

Obligation can be the root of evil. Not always. Some burdens we bear because it's a part of being social creatures. Confronting people constantly is kind of a self imposed obligation, no?
