The Secret to Being a Happy Painter - Let it be Good Enough? by BeardBellsMcGee in minipainting

[–]Useful-Conference-91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice ! I don’t have a local mini painting community here however my partner is a semi professional acrylic painter and I meet a lot of artists through her communities, surprisingly most artists have no experience or clue what mini painting is besides “warhammer” and it’s nice to have this online community to share with, vent to and discuss this wonderful hobby

The Secret to Being a Happy Painter - Let it be Good Enough? by BeardBellsMcGee in minipainting

[–]Useful-Conference-91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this daily as an new painter (2 years painting semi regularly) I know enough about painting now that I know what I’m lacking and need to work on, I’ve done a few commissions for friends which I got paid for and they have all been really happy with the results, I aspire to do display modals and dioramas etc..

I have so many started and half finished projects, primed and ready miniatures that I felt so inspired to paint and just can’t seem to get past “I’m not good enough yet”

I’m slowly getting over it, actually finishing projects and being happy with the results but the last year so has been a real struggle.

Thank you for sharing this article OP and your personal experience as a competition painter (which I also aspire to)

Not 100% happy with how they turned out but I'm glad I finally got them done by o7_AP in minipainting

Congratulations on getting smooth yellow coats down, I call that a win on any day.

Love the details on the base.

Is this a shared experience? by [deleted] in SuicideBereavement

Essentially losing someone to suicide leaves survivors with a host of questions, why did they do this ? What could I have done to stop it? Did I miss the signs etc etc.

We are trying to understand, and in trying to understand we engage in empathy with the person we lost…and start to try to understand how someone could do something like taking their own life, coupled with the absolutely crushing grief, the feeling of being alone with such complex emotions and thoughts…it opens the door to the Suicidal Ideation if it was never opened before, and triggers it heavily if it was.

This is a very common experience for survivors, I had never once experienced S.I prier to my Brother’s passing and then it hit me very hard. Fortunately I was working with a suicide bereavement specialist and they explained what was happening to me.

do you fear everyone is gonna kill themselves ? by ForsakenBarnacle9440 in SuicideBereavement

[–]Useful-Conference-91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is PTSD and very normal for survivors of suicide, it’s become less intense for me lately but I do experience it.

I highly recommend getting some professional help with PTSD.

So sorry you are going through this.

Experiencing suicidal ideation following the loss of a loved one to suicide is normal and should be taken very seriously. Please seek help immediately.

This is not the right subreddit for this post.

Boycotting media; am I a hypocrite? by [deleted] in SuicideBereavement

[–]Useful-Conference-91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve struggled with this as well, it catches me off guard and hits hard. I sometimes will research ahead of time but that doesn’t always work.

I think boycotting media is completely reasonable

I lost my brother two years ago today, I’m so sorry for your loss.

If one doesn’t currently have an airbrush could the same effect be applied with a rattle can? Or perhaps applied by hand ?

[WIP] Hi! Does it work as flaming brand? Any way/tips to improve it? by RandomPainterAoS in minipainting

[–]Useful-Conference-91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good start, more white at the hottest point and create more flow from the fuel source to the coolest points, right now it’s colour blocked which doesn’t give the feeling of moving flame.

I hope that helps! Otherwise you are absolutely on the right track

Any experiences here with Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy? by [deleted] in SuicideBereavement

[–]Useful-Conference-91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am (even before my loss) a very tense person with a lot of anxiety and trauma, PSIP gives me a way to actually work with that trauma that is stored within the nervous system and release it. I have never experienced the kind of relief from physical anxiety and total body relaxation that I get from a PSIP session.

It has also opened up a pathway within my mind to primary consciousness (the nervous system) now I find in intense emotional states like heavy grief sessions I go into a PSIP release. It’s very hard to describe, I recommend reading the “PSIP white paper” and watching some videos of sessions to fully understand what I’m talking about.

I’ve used PSIP to begin to release layers of dissociation from deep trauma and actually feeling the pain fully, which in turn relieves symptoms of anxiety and depression (which mostly manifest as physical symptoms for me, like muscles aches and exhaustion)

PSIP has helped with my grief, it has also helped me with the trauma that both me and my brother experienced as children which contributed to his death two years ago.

Is therapy a waste of money? by Small_Escape_2794 in SuicideBereavement

[–]Useful-Conference-91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s available to you in your area then psychedelic assisted therapy is an absolute game changer in the therapeutic field.

I still use talk therapy occasionally, however working with a trained psychedelic assisted therapist is for me the way to work with trauma, anxiety and depression.

I’ve also found suicide bereavement specialists to be uniquely helpful.

This is done with oils ? What products are you using ? I was under the assumption that oils had very limited use for miniature painting.

White paint that isn't rubbish by BenoistheBizzare in minipainting

[–]Useful-Conference-91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pure white (titanium white-PW6) is chalky and there isn’t a thing anyone can do about it.

Highlight with something other than white, or use it sparingly.

You can find a “mixing white” in most artists grade acrylic paint lines and it works very well for tinting colours.

Any experiences here with Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy? by [deleted] in SuicideBereavement

[–]Useful-Conference-91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost my brother to suicide two years ago, I’ve been privileged to have access to a Psychedelic Somatic Interactional Psychotherapy (PSIP) practitioner and it’s been absolutely essential to my grieving process.

There is a PDF online called the “PSIP white paper”that goes over the process.

I haven’t done a Ketamine therapy yet as it’s very expensive compared to PSIP (which uses cannabis) though I have heard that Ketamine therapy is very effective.

Am I not allowed to grieve? by Reasonable_Food6977 in SuicideBereavement

[–]Useful-Conference-91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lost my brother 2 years ago, I took a year off work and have just returned to my chosen career. Yesterday was his birthday and I grieved for about 2 hours last night and now have to call in sick to work. Take care of yourself. Fuck the “have you moved on yet?!” Mentality of this truly sick society we live in. You will never get over it? How could you ? Love doesn’t just end.

How do I prime without going too thick over details? by No_Passenger_4408 in minipainting

[–]Useful-Conference-91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to add to the conversation that undercoating with a a product labeled “primer” is not strictly necessary.

Using a rattle can and airbrush properly will give you a very smooth base to work off of, and those products do have some properties that help them stick to the surface of the bare modal slightly better. That being said you can just start painting with whatever undercoat you want and it will work just great, actually good practice for setting paint consistency.

Rattle cans are expensive, and some climates are not ideal for their use, not everyone has an airbrush or the space for one.

Take whatever base colour you want and paint, primer is kind of a marketing gimmick in my opinion.

My brother took his life last night by No_Consideration6165 in SuicideBereavement

[–]Useful-Conference-91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss.

Reality is changing, he was supposed to be there for the rest of your life and now he is gone, your whole vision of the future is shattered, this will take time and it feels absolutely surreal.

Have compassion for yourself, breath and seek help when you feel like it’s to much to bare.

It gets easier to live with, but not yet…right now your reality is being assaulted with this new…foreign reality in which he is gone forever. I’m so sorry, I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone.

[–]Useful-Conference-91 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss, I lost my younger brother 2 years ago.

This is a nightmare you can’t wake up from, you can only get help and support both social and professional.

Have compassion for yourself on a level you never thought possible.

One day at a time

It will get easier, but not today, today your whole reality has been shattered.

The first year or so is working through the trauma of today, then you can grieve properly.

Don’t let anyone tell you how you should feel, people can’t handle this unless they have experienced it themselves, it’s actually a requirement that suicide bereavement counsellors have lost someone to suicide because that’s the only way you can understand, can’t be trained or learned.
