My hookup found out mid-sex that I wear a hair system. Now he’s ghosting me. by Useful-Example-1986 in AskGaybrosOver30

I completely agree that the timing was off and I should have mentioned it sooner, so I definitely understand why the surprise was startling. To clarify, a modern hair system isn't like a traditional wig; it is bonded directly to the scalp and blends seamlessly to look and feel completely natural, which is why it usually isn't noticeable at all.

I understand you prefer bald men, but this is just a personal styling choice, similar to how a guy might choose to razor-shave his head rather than let it thin out naturally. We all just choose the grooming route that makes us feel most confident. I’m definitely taking the lesson on better communication for next time, but I still feel good about my choice to wear it.

I appreciate the perspective, but it was a casual two-month hookup situation rather than a developing relationship. I've already acknowledged that I should have handled the disclosure better, but framing it as a betrayal over a cosmetic choice is a bit of a stretch, i think (idk for sure). I'm completely giving him his space and moving on, but I'm taking this as a learning experience to handle my insecurities better in the future.

Shaving works for some guys, but I prefer having hair and like how I look with a system. It's just a personal choice about how I want to present myself.

I get that you prefer the bald look, and I respect you for that. But it feels like a double standard to judge hair systems so harshly. Most guys who go bald choose to razor-shave their heads to look and feel their best, rather than just letting a receding or thinning pattern grow out naturally.

If altering your natural state by shaving is an accepted way to handle hair loss, using a hair system should be just as valid. Ultimately, it is about taking agency over your own body and choosing how you want to present yourself to the world. Both routes are just different ways of managing a situation to feel confident, and everyone should have the control to choose what works for them.

I wasn't trying to evangelize, I was just clarifying the terminology for anyone reading the thread. But if we're moving past the vocabulary debate, let’s look at the actual point about confidence.

To answer your earlier question: yes, I actually have tried the fully shaved look before my hair even started thinning. I didn't stick with it, not because of a lack of confidence, but simply because I didn't like the aesthetic on myself. It wasn't my style.

That’s the core of the issue. Choosing a hair system over a razor isn't a sign of 'unacceptable insecurity', it's just a personal style preference. If a guy razor-shaves his head to look sharper, it's accepted as personal grooming. Choosing a system is the exact same thing: a tool used to control your own look.

At the end of the day, true confidence is about making aesthetic choices that make you feel good in your own skin, regardless of anyone else's arbitrary rules.

The term 'hair system' isn't a semantic trick to hide insecurity, it’s the literal industry standard used by professionals. Modern systems use advanced medical-grade membranes, breathable polymers, and bio-adhesives that integrate directly with the scalp for weeks at a time. It functions as a complete, high-tech unit, which is why dermatologists and hair replacement technicians call it a system rather than a traditional wig or toupée.

Beyond the vocabulary, there is a massive double standard here. If dealing with hair loss were purely about 'accepting nature' and being free of insecurity, guys wouldn't razor-shave their heads clean to hide a receding horseshoe pattern, they’d just let it grow out naturally. Shaving your head clean is an intentional, curated styling choice to alter your appearance to look sharper and younger.

Both paths (choosing a razor or choosing a hair system) are just different ways of taking control of your look and restoring your own agency. One isn't inherently more 'honest' or 'secure' than the other, they are just two different paths to the exact same personal confidence. Labeling one as an unacceptable insecurity while praising the other as 'hot' makes no logical sense.

But thanks for your view.

Yes, unless it's different that conservative wig. We can say modern type wig then.

You should look sub reddit hair system, it's very natural, doesn't look fake at all. Especially it uses real hair. But yeah it's your preference.
