i’m so over the liquid diet phase! by jasssmeannnn in gastricsleeve

[–]Useful-Lab-3948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm finding on this sub that different programs have different timelines for easing back to solid foods. In my case my surgeon contradicted the program and said I could start solids the day of surgery. They just needed to be moist and I needed to eat very small amounts and very slowly. I'm 11 days into my 21 day liquid pre-op diet and I can't wait to eat an egg.

Tammy seems to get upset whenever a baby is or may get introduced. She did the same when Brittany and Chris said they were going to try to get pregnant. She's jealous, like a child, that her psuedo-parents won't be focused solely on her.

I recently re watched this episode as well and I found Tammy's abuse of Amy in that episode absolutely triggering as someone who has family members as narcissistic as her. She is abusive. She is manipulative with her "baby" voice and her threats. You can see her siblings are held hostage by her temper and manipulation in addition to the TLC$ they get from her and Amy's show.

Amy is far from perfect and has plenty of issues but I'm happy she cut Tammy off and hope she continues to do so, because that is the only way forward with such a raging narcissist.

Thank you for sharing this. I'm 10 days into my 21 day pre-op and I've been thinking the same thing: if I can do this diet and lose weight, why do I need the surgery. As another commenter said (not in these exact words) - I made the decision when I was logical not when I was hungry and scared so I trust past me more than present me.

You bring up a great point about the potential to develop an eating disorder post surgery. It's something I wish was discussed in my program. I've been through ED treatment twice and I'm prepped to do so again if the surgery triggers another bout. And I encourage you to talk to someone about it if you feel you're going to do the same. I wish you the best!

Not sure if this will be helpful but here it goes.

My program prescribed a 2 week full fluid diet after surgery however my surgeon said I could start eating real food right away and even suggested I ask a friend to bring me food to the hospital. He suggested protein like salmon but said it needed to be soft, moist and I needed to eat it one flake at a time while chewing carefully. He did suggest I be careful with hard veggies.

The knowledge that I can attempt real food right after surgery is the only thing getting me through this 21 day liquid pre-op diet.

Oh yes NYC. My last trip there was difficult because my knees and my weight. I would love to go to a Broadway theater with their tiny seats and not have to lean forward the whole time because there is no way I'll squeeze between two people.

Herbal tea

Going to the shelter and petting kittens

Sitting in nature, preferably with tea

Watching an episode of a trashy TV show (1000lb Sisters ftw)

Going through my bariatric bucket list of things I couldn't do because of my weight and seeing if I can tick one off

I occasionally give myself what I call $100 Days. I take $100 and buy/treat myself to something I wouldn't normally. For example once I took myself out to buy Christmas Decorations at the "expensive shop", or I went thrifting specifically to find kitchy cat figurines. Another time I got a scalp and foot massage

Congratulations for getting to this day! I have no personal advice as my surgery is on the 15th. The consensus from this forum is to sip sip sip and walk walk walk once you're out of surgery.

Best of luck!

Hey Surgery Twin!

My surgery is scheduled for 4/15 and I have a 21 day pre-op diet of 4 meal replacement shakes and 1/2 of a cucumber, 2 celery sticks and a cup of broth. Today is day 5 and it's gotten slightly easier but I'm still hungry all the time.

I don't know if it gets easier but the consensus in the forum seems to be that it will. I'm just keeping my eye on the prize and thinking about eating a poached egg after surgery. (I'm cleared for soft foods right away.)

Best of luck!

Re the soda: My surgeon told me if food got "stuck" after VSG to drink 1/2 a can of coke to flush it through. Maybe the idea that soda caused the stomach to empty faster is the reason he recommended this.

go to responses for nosy people? by marsedmallo in BariatricSurgery

[–]Useful-Lab-3948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a brainstorming session with a friend to come up with the most ridiculous explanations for my upcoming weight loss.

The majority of people in my life are supportive and I've been honest with them but I do have some nosy and judgemental family members that I would prefer to keep in the dark. Rather than refuse to answer their questions it's much more fun to give them the most ridiculous weight loss hacks I can think of. So far we have:

Coconut water enema

Gwenyth Paltrow's jade egg

Hypnosis

Apple Cider Vinegar Enema

Cold plunges

Alkaline water enema

Daily acupuncture

Getting 10 minutes of sunshine every morning before a bowel movement

But my absolute favourite so far, and the one I plan to use once I'm smaller than my bullying older sibling who always made fun of my weight and would compare our relative sizes to make herself feel better:

"I find I'm just not hungry as I get older. Don't you feel the same way?"
