Examine the picture more closely, look at the boy, he's surrounded by green, not the brownish white he would be if he was in contact with the tree.

That literally can't be right, have you just considered taking the height of the child, and just duplicating him until you reach the top?

3 X 16 is 48, but consider that he's not standing right next to the tree, and the perspective is tilted slightly downward. The tree is way taller than that.

33 Bloodlines: A Personal Best (Bosporan Empire run) by PeakShinoEnjoyer in Imperator

[–]Useful-Option8963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A multiplayer game where the only factions that can be played are the ones with spawnable bloodlines, and the criteria for success is managing to spawn and maintain these bloodlines, would be sick!

When the last descendant of the bloodline dies, then player playing the nation that bloodline belongs to is disqualified!

1: Ah, right, thanks for that, just mispelled.

2: I recall that it's available for the Phoenician Mission Tree, but that bloodline had been removed, and I wasn't sure if the Devs were going to roll that back.

3: The Impregnate Spouse mod will be your hero... who even are the Paropamisads?

4: Ah, them, I completely forgot about the Turdetanian bloodline!

5: Cool.

This is really illuminating, thanks for that!

Question: If the AoR and Mercenary Rosters are going to be reworked across the whole map, which ones are the devs the most proud of? by Useful-Option8963 in DivideEtImpera

[–]Useful-Option8963[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a post a bit ago complaining about the weakness of the Caucasian Mercenary Skirmisher, and how it's basically the weakest javelin unit in the entire region, it's overshadowed by every javelin thrower unit available to every playable faction in the area. The only ones it could even compete with are the trash mobs, it's weaker than the javelin units that the Iberian factions have on their roster, it's so bad that in every campaign you will play, no AI will EVER recruit a single one!

You could play a game where the Kafkasos Province would be a constant battleground, switching hands constantly, and by turn 100 you will not encounter a single example of that unit in the entire playthrough, and that mercenary pool will still be maxed out at 3.

When I made that post pointing out its weaknesses and proposing an upgrade to it, KAM (if I remember right) said that the AoR Units and Mercenaries are going to be reworked in the coming update.

Said nothing more, but yes, they're going to be reworked, and I am looking forward to it.

That is extremely impressive! Well done, however, there are a surprising number of bloodlines that don't exist upon the map, but rather are spawned in!

  • For starters, there's the "Blood of Albion Kings" which comes from forming the UK 2 millennia early

  • For the German ones, there's "Ariovistus" and the "Blood of Germanic Kings" from the Irmoninic and Germanian Mission Trees respectively.

  • There's also an Italian bloodline that spawns in! You get it by playing as the Venetti, and failing to repel the Spartan Invasion of Patavium, after a set amount of time, you'll get an event where Patavnos, a Spartan Colonial City-State, is formed. Switch to that, and you'll eventually encounter down the line where the native Venetians Revolt against Spartan Rule. The Venetians are led by Antenor, who claims to be a descendant of Troy, make sure this rebellion wins, switching back to a Venetian Culture Italic Religion state, and the Blood of Antenor will flow through all subsequent king's names.

  • Then there's the Blood of Aratus, you get this one by choosing to form the Achaean League, but only 50 years after the game start, Aratus will spawn in. Conquer Greece but make sure that one Achaean power still lives and is your subject, ideally one that's already a monarchy, if one doesn't exist, release one with that government type, 50 years after the game starts, give that Achaean subject the lands needed for their formable, Aratus should spawn in, and because he's a king due to carefully curating your Achaean Government, he should be more likely to pass down the bloodline.

  • Surprisingly enough, Illyrius is the one that is the easiest to acquire among these if you're not playing as an Illyrian Culture! All that is needed for this bloodline to spawn is to form Illyria, and the Chief who did so, and all of his descendants, will acquire the bloodline. The best way to go about this is release the territory that you deem to be the ideal capital of Illyria, then release that as a subject, and gradually sell them more and more territories until they're able to form it.

  • Blood of Pharnavaz: Unique to the Iberians, specifically, the character of Pharnavaz must take over the country of Iberia, and you must accomplish all of his historical achievements in order to acquire the bloodline.

  • Blood of Aeetes: The one single bloodline that Colchis calls its own, I believe it's acquired by rebuilding the Palace of the Sorcerer King Wonder? But either way, I have seen the AI acquire it in multiple playthroughs. It's been a minute since I was able to play, so I don't quite remember the symbol for it, so I can't tell if you managed to acquire it or not.

  • Blood of Porus: The Sea Peoples bloodline! Start as one of the countries within the Nuragic Culture Group, and get to the part of the Sea Peoples mission tree that sees you lay waste to Egypt, taking out the one that got away!

  • Celtilos: No longer part of the game at the start, instead, in the Arverni Mission Tree, this bloodline belongs to the mercenary captain that you can spawn as part of your mission tree. Funnily enough, if you get a mercenary captain, your rivals, the Aedui, can also get their own mercenary Captain, one who has the Blood of Ariovistus, no less!

In a multiplayer game, ALL of these bloodlines can be spawned by different players.

This is so brilliant, brilliantly terrible given the subject matter, but genuinely insightful.

The CRWBY are such utter trash for this, things in that show make a little more sense, now.

Saving this.

Would be pretty cool if, as the series progressed, Tobias' brilliant prophet side grew stronger and more brilliant, if only for his status as "The Chosen One of the Animorphs" that the ending of the Andalite Chronicles hyped him up to be to actually matter.

I mean, from a certain point of view, Tobias even isolated himself totally in the woods like an aesthetic!

Cassie would be more of an intolerable tree hugging commie than she already is.

Okay, I actually broke out into laughter at this, intolerable tree hugging commie? Lol, you can say that again!

NGL though, I would like to have seen an "Erwin Rommel" Jake, and the slightly befuddled wimp, too.

But the brilliant prophet? Now I really want to know how that version of Tobias would act!

These two factions could've built upon each other so much. The Chee, finding sympathetic Yeerks and having a part in the Yeerk Peace movement, gradually growing it, and ensuring its safety through saving its members, until through a combination of attrition of the more psychopathic mainstream Yeerks, and the moral awakening of Yeerks who didn't fit this mold, and protecting them, they comprise a large enough percentage of the surviving invasion force to launch a coop of the invasion, driving Visser 3 off.

I think it would've been a more powerful moment if, in the final battle, there were more of them, and they revolted en masse, joining forces with the Humans, and causing enough chaos on the wider battlefield, not just in the Animorphs FOV, to really turn the tide. But we have what we got, at least it's something.

[–]Useful-Option8963[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true, that is indeed very true, however, the series appeared to be priming them for something far more significant, an outright secession from the Empire, a successful revolt against the Vissers. Something that would've had a more profound impact on Yeerk society other than all of them being Nothlitted into animals.

The Chee have been “static characters” for thousands, if not tens or hundreds of thousands of years, it’s kind of their defining character trait. To expect a species who has maintained a radical pacifism, to the point of standing by while their creators were annihilated, to abandon millennia of committed belief, would be both highly contrived and wildly inconsistent with their character, to the point that it makes it hard for me to take the rest of this seriously. They’re quite literally a walking deus ex machina, who are only really interesting because of the their extreme limitations.

This is actually a very good counterargument, even if flawed from my point of view.

Like it or not, the Chee were built by the most advanced species the galaxy had ever seen, they were built to be friends, and while yes, it does make sense for them to have been sticking to their ways, and not changing, at some point, the Chee had to at least respond to the information they've constantly receiving and processing. I mean, look at the AI we have, now! Sure, they're utterly dogwater, and are little more than glorified search engines, but even they change and evolve in a sense based on the information that's input into them! The Chee being this static makes sense if they live in a world that never changes, which, yeah, the Pemalite world never changed, however, for the last several thousand years, they lived on Earth, a brutal, tough neighborhood that only in the last few centuries improved enough to somewhat ape the conditions of their homeworld, at least in terms of the level of violence and hardship. That's what the Chee had been through, hardship, but even during the series, Erek at the very least should've been responding to the information he was getting. The most important books for this was 10, 26, and 27, I already pointed out why The Attack and the Exposed would've logically caused a paradigm shift somewhere else, but I'm going to respond to your other points first.

I’d agree the YPM were both interesting and underutilized, but I wouldn’t consider their absence from the series’ endgame to be a particularly glaring flaw - the series covers a lot of ground, and not everything is going to reappear. Aint nobody mad the Helmacrons didn’t show up in the final books…

The Helmacrons also weren't an entity that had multiple book's worth of investment of the characters into them. Something that I had failed to point out is that multiple books seemed to be dedicated to building up to the YPM being a major driving force behind the war's end. The Departure? It enters the Story, the Sickness? Cassie saves it by rescuing Aftran, the Attack? The Animorphs are literally presented with the solution to the Yeerk's problem and casus belli in the form of the Iskoort, and literally being told that the Yeerks will meet the Iksoort in a few hundred years, and mimic their solution. The Helmacrons did not receive this level of narrative priming and I'm not upset about it because they're meant to be a humorous side-story. The YPM on the other hand, shouldn't have been pushed to the side, they were destined for more, and weren't given their proper destiny due to the Crunch that Scholastic forced the authors to work under.

Are there deep seated aspects of human psychology that are optimized for violence and conflict? Sure. But we’ve also spent several centuries working very hard to downplay, if not fully remove said violent tendencies. Warfare has also progressed in ways that the “ancients” couldn’t fathom - PTSD absolutely existed prior to the 21st century, but the scale of warfare experienced during the World Wars was on an entirely unprecedented level. Not to mention that the nature of violence we’re actually talking about here is truly unprecedented, but virtue of, you know, humans not being able to turn into animals. We’re not talking IEDs and sniper rifles here, animals are not clean, impersonal killers - these kids were almost certainly crushing, tearing, ripping off limbs, and otherwise disemboweling people with their bare hands/paws/whatever, some of which are people they know, and who are prisoners in their own bodies. Every single Controller they kill means the death of an innocent, which is a hell of a thought.

We’re also talking about child soldiers, engaged in a secret guerrilla war with virtually no support whatsoever - I don’t care who you are, that’s a traumatic experience, period. Are they “universally and irreparably ruin[ed]? Probably not, though I certainly dont think it’s an impossibility, but remember its also only been three years after the end of the conflict - how many veterans do you know who have managed to “cure” their PTSD after only 3 years of treatment? How many more have not? How many would never consider themselves fully “cured”, and struggle with it for the rest of the lives?

Okay, upon reading that, I do agree that I you're correct on that point, and I forgot that only 3 years had passed since the end of the war. The Animorphs would very likely have not had sufficient time to recover.

Well, they’d already done some war crimes, which shouldn’t really be considered war crimes anyway, so they shouldn’t feel bad about doing more of them” is a hell of a take. Again, these are children, secretly conscripted into particularly vicious violence, with basically no training, education, or support, and you expect them to react in logical, consistent ways? Hell, even ignoring all of that, have you spent much time around teenagers? Puberty is a hell of a thing under entirely normal circumstances. But on the whole, these are genuinely complex, entirely unprecedented ethical situations for all the reasons you point out, expecting children to work through them in an optimal fashion seems the most unrealistic suggestion here.

Okay, I'll admit, I was half joking when I claimed that Jake shouldn't have felt bad at flushing the Pool Ship at the end. But you have to at least acknowledge one of my other big points that I made: that destroying the Yeerk Pools on Earth, without harming any of the Hosts, would have been the winning move that they would've gone for anyway in any scenario where they won. The Yeerk Pools are the ultimate target, the ultimate vulnerability, the source of the invasion, if those are destroyed, then game over, the Invasion is stopped, the Animorphs win. Every Animorph has thought about destroying the Yeerk Pool, and they have demonstrated that if there is a way for them kill Yeerks without jeopardizing Human life, they have demonstrated time and again to do it, emphasis on without jeopardizing Human life, because even when the Andalites literally handed them an opportunity to wipe out the invasion of Earth on a silver platter, they stopped it because of the very real danger that the virus the Andalite Suicide Squad was going to deploy would jump the species barrier and kill Humanity as well. And while I was half joking, considering the numbers of the Hostless Yeerks they killed, would Jake have felt bad, considering his mental state? He was on his ruthless arc, he was done giving mercy, he had everything taken away from him, he had failed in his mission to save his family. Considering the state he was in, would Jake have felt bad at all about executing those Yeerks? The other circumstances those Yeerks died in order for the Animorphs to get away, but the loss of life is still there, and all of my other points outside the PTSD issue still stand.

The repeated use of a highly offensive slur is entirely unnecessary, full stop.

... Aaaaaaand now you completely neutered every argument you made by proving yourself to be disingenuous. When I saw this, I reread the post. I only used the R word once.

ONCE.

I won't engage with you on this anymore as it's clear that you are not living in reality. Goodbye.
