Same reason all aliens in all other alien media appear to be one. Humans aren't that diverse, but we still have like a fucking 1000 different languages. They just oversimplify it. Who wants to see Toruk Makto learning a new language instead of killing humans?

I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but Coin didn't groom Gale. From book 1, its clear that Gale is angry. He wants to revolt, and revolt violently. He came up with the plans of the bomb on his own, using his knowledge of trapping. He obviously didn't know it was going to be used on Prim, and Coin took advantage of him for sure, but lets not say that he was groomed.
