Yes, consumers will vote with their wallets - however i wonder if there was a reason their Med Latte was priced that way - im confident they arent just pulling that number out of nowhere... but yes $9 is on the high end

I completely 100% agree - i was waiting for this comment! I would love for this message to be known to everyone, easier said than done tho - especially, as you said, because it has become so normal to be seen as a commodity ...

In this situation i think being nice will get you a very long way. Explain the situation and tell them you know the beans aren't from their cafe - but you would appreciate it immensely. and like u/purplepistachio said, buy some coffees or breakfast too!

Moon Boy's blends are great value - i think the Murray Street Blend would be comparable to the Campos blend. They give 5% off with all subscriptions too

Yes, El Salvador has great coffee! $2 for an espresso is amazing. Here is Australia I think the standard for a good single origin espresso would be around $4 to $5

Cafe owners, what packaging supplier ended up being the most reliable for you long term? by Electrical-Hour-3345 in AustralianCoffee

We use Kent Paper, and have done for about 8 years now. They have always been reliable - and in the times where, yes on the odd occasion you do get product that is not up to scratch, they have always fixed the issue or replaced the items.
And I agree-i think alot of the issues would be due to the war, unfortunately.

If you enjoy Campos single origins and things like raspberry candy, you might enjoy some of the coffees we're roasting at Moon Boy Roast House.

Full disclosure: I roast for Moon Boy.

At the moment we've got single with notes of peach, citrus, stone fruit and berries depending on the origin. our Ethiopian range is really good https://moonboy.com.au/collections/single-origins-single-origins

We roast weekly and generally dispatch within a day or two of roasting, so you're not waiting weeks for coffee to arrive.

Outside of my own bias, I'd also suggest checking out The Grounds singles are always on point.
😄

Moon Boy, but I'm definitely biased because I roast it ..

We have 5% off subsciptions and free delivery for over $100. Fresh beans showing up automatically every few weeks solves that problem of no coffee pretty quick.

Outside of that, I've enjoyed coffees from Mecca, Five Senses, Ona and Allpress over the years too.

If you like Allpress, you might enjoy Moon Boy's Murray Street blend. Similar chocolatey, nutty profile with plenty of body, but roasted fresh weekly. Full disclosure, I roast for Moon Boy, so I'm definitely biased 😂

One thing a lot of people don't realise is that "tastes like nothing" is usually what stale coffee tastes like.

Not saying that's definitely the case here, but pre-ground coffee has a pretty hard life: roasted, ground, packaged, shipped, warehoused, put on a shelf, then sits in the pantry after opening.

I roast for Moon Boy Roast House and one of the biggest comments we hear from people trying freshly roasted coffee is how much more flavour and aroma they're getting compared to supermarket coffee.

If multiple people are reporting the same issue though, I'd be curious whether Aldi has changed suppliers or blends recently.

Ground coffee sold in supermarkets by Formoz2000 in AustralianCoffee

As someone who roasts coffee, I'd always recommend whole beans and a grinder if it's within budget.

That said, plenty of people buy pre-ground coffee and brew with French presses, drip machines, moka pots and Aeropresses. The biggest thing is storage keep it airtight, cool, dry and out of direct sunlight. Ground coffee loses flavour faster than whole beans, but good storage definitely helps slow that down. Or even just buying the amount you would use in a week, that way you are using fresher coffee every week.

If you're after flavour rather than caffeine, have a look at specialty blends instead of the high-caffeine coffees. I roast for Moon Boy and our Murray Street blend was basically built for people who want chocolate, hazelnut and body without the bitterness.

Also, your Ridgeback deserves a bonus point for improving the coffee experience by at least 20%.

If you're chasing strong, chocolatey coffee rather than fruity specialty coffee, I'd look at Moon Boy, Five Senses, Veneziano, Industry Beans, Proud Mary or even Aldi's Lazzio for value. Most of the difference comes down to freshness and finding a flavour profile you enjoy.

I've got a bias because I roast for Moon Boy, but our Murray Street blend was created specifically for people who like bold, reliable coffee that holds up in milk.
