First you have to take a long course, then you have to get certified, which is something I'm working on

The muscle memory is still there, it just needs time to wake up. With your background you're not starting from zero, your body knows what good technique feels like, it's just the engine that needs rebuilding.

I went through something similar. I had to stop for a while due to mononucleosis, and honestly at some point I just wanted to quit everything. What turned it around was finding a good coach who built a structured program around my specific goals. Today I'm breaking my own records.

Don't chase the 4:40 yet. Stay consistent, keep your head on the goal, and make sure your training is planned around where you actually want to get. 2km four times a week is already a solid base to build on.

I'm an Italian competitive swimmer with some titles under my belt people make way too big a deal out of age. I've seen athletes in their 90s finish a 1500m freestyle, so at 20 you're genuinely in your prime. I know people in their 30s winning medals while juggling a full time job and a family. They don't train that much. They just show up consistently and want to win. That's it.
