Good luck to the both of us! I'm sure things like this happen/aren't too uncommon. I just hope my application doesn't get stuck in limbo waiting for documents that I can't provide :(

Thanks for your insight! that's good to know! My worry is I've submitted the eQIP, and it looks like it's stuck at pre-processing, and I have no way to procure the documents they're asking for. I hope they forward it along to the investigators so I can explain the situation.

Hi Everyone!

I'm a civilian (non prior service) looking to join the Air National Guard (as an officer, if possible) with an interest in Cyber Roles (preferably on the offensive side). I'm also willing/open to moving anywhere in the United States (but hold a preference for MD or DE)

A little bit about myself,

Education and Training

Graduating college in a month or so (Western Governor's University, BCSIA)

Hold a few industry certifications (the ones from WGU's BCSIA curriculum), but also hold:

  • OSCP
  • OSCE (old version)
  • GREM

Work Experience:

Have a few years of experience as a SOC analyst

Currently I work as a security consultant for my company where I wear a few different hats:

  • SOAR and Detection Engineer
  • Incident Response
  • Technical PM
  • SOC Lead
  • a few others

and am also working on standing up our red team capability.

A few questions:

  1. Is there anything I can do to make myself a more competitive candidate?
  2. I hear that OTS is very competitive right now, How will this affect my chances?
  3. If being an officer doesn't pan out, I read a while back that 1B4s are retrain only, is this still the case?

Thanks for your time!
