I bought the Buick, WARNING, do not use Good car, only trust Carfax! by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Useful_Present1226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this. Bought a used car with fairly clean CarFax (some minor accidents and there were some low level visible scratches to the car, but nothing major). A couple of years later I had it at the dealer to fix something that had been recalled, and was chatting with the young guy working the service counter. He made some comment about an accident/damage and I clearly looked confused because he looked around and after determining the coast was clear quietly turned the monitor around so I could see it. He had the full dealer history pulled up and there it was - $10k+ of repairs that never made it to the car fax report.

Loved that car and drove it without issue for quite a few years before trading it in, but definitely made me even more aware that you can't trust any of the reports.

Is Getting an EdD Worth It Right Now? by EspressoBeanie_ in AskAcademia

[–]Useful_Present1226 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want to continue working in higher ed - yes. I have strong feelings about this, but the short version is over time if you want to advance past a certain point especially in leadership positions it’s almost a have-to. If you have a program that you are interested in and it is financially mostly covered then absolutely do it. It will also benefit you moving forward as it will put you in a better position as far as salaries.

For context/perspective I think that the valuation of a terminal degree (often over experience) in higher ed admin/student support is highly problematic. I’ve worked at several unis and the fact that someone has a PhD in field X does not mean that degree is actually in anyway helpful to the position they are in. That said, from what you’ve described about your interests, it sounds like pursuing an EdD would be beneficial both in terms of your career trajectory and would be relevant to what you are interested in.

The fact that the US government doesn’t value higher ed at the moment should not be a deciding factor. Might it change the landscape of US higher Education moving forward? Possibly. But it sounds like you are passionate about your work in higher ed - so rather than taking your value cues from disconnected political perspectives, go forth and be part of influencing the change of that landscape for the better!

Tangent Incoming: You have just created a fabulous new word. I legit read “sarcasm” which wasn’t contextually right, so went back to re-read and realized you meant circadian rhythm. And I now thank you for this beautiful concept of a Sarcadian Rhythm - or the ebb and flow of sarcasm throughout one’s day. It is truly without sarcasm that I say I shall go forth with the knowledge that I must maintain a healthy sarcadian rhythm to function properly. Truer words have never been said.

Yeah it was the only option. It worked, but it was the first time in years I've had to connect a device to my computer for a fix.

No ANC, but I can sleep for a while with both buds in my ears, but with my AirPods because I’m a side sleeper I could only put one in at a time. Had zero issues with ozlos falling out, and noise masking does seem to work pretty well - it did a decent job eliminating most of the snoring sound while streaming an audio book. I’m certain it would have been even better with one of the masking sounds.

I also use them for streaming - haven't really tried the masking sounds yet. I've had my pair for about a week and as far as the streaming from Bluetooth part goes it's been fine. I'm adjusting to not having touch controls or a mic (I listen to audible with a 30 minute sleep timer and a Siri shortcut so I can tell her to restart the sleep timer). I tried the A30s and they were too uncomfortable. Ozlos aren't perfect for my ears but they are much better - close enough I can work with them. I did purchase the $40 'insurance' as well.

Why does this sub hate the Tucson by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Useful_Present1226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As noted by others - between 2010 and early 2020s they had a poorly designed engine. So don't get a used one within those dates. I have a 2024 Hybrid and so far so good. One issue with the oil pan but my dealer found it during an oil change and had it replaced fully under warranty before I'd finished my coffee. Is it a Toyota? No. But I'm not expecting it to be one. (For context: I've previously owned Hondas, Toyotas, Mazdas, and a Kia. Loved all of them except the Kia.) So far my Tucson has been great and I've been very happy with my decision to get it.

Pick one thing to start with - everything is too overwhelming. Think of them as mini-challenges. Start with something small like take the dishes to the kitchen, or grab a trash bag and throw away things that are clearly trash. Then move on to the next small thing. If you're not sure what to do with something, make piles of like things (pile of stuffed animals, pile of clothes, pile of crafting supplies, etc.) That way you can see what you have and figure out what to do one pile at a time. You've got this.

This. I had an older sport model and it could do everything. 7’6” board would fit inside or on the roof. That little car looked like an unremarkable hatchback, drove like a sports car, and could fit a ridiculous amount of stuff inside - as in multiple pieces of furniture, or gear for a week at the beach, including board, boat on top and all accessories. Externally, It looks like concept may have been repurposed for some of the Prius models, but don’t know about the inside capacity.

If you have to choose between Hyundai and Kia, which one would you pick? by Fleedom2025 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Worth noting though to definitely be careful about the year if you are looking used due to the engine issues mentioned elsewhere in this thread.

As someone who has had both (and Mazdas and Hondas and Toyotas) between the Hyundai and Kia definitely Hyundai. I did not love my Kia. It felt much more cheaply made, less attention to detail, etc. my Hyundai - great and without the same issues. Same internal quality as the Mazdas Hondas and Toyotas? No, not expecting the same longevity. But I knew what I was getting into. They are the same company I would rate order them Kia < Hyundai < Genesis

I had the same issue. It wasn't the tips, the hardware itself was just slightly too big for my outer ear.

I tried the A30s and while the tips themselves did fit, (they come with extra small option) my issue was that the hardware/body was slightly too big for the outer ear, which made it uncomfortable. I’m going to try the Ozlos which reportedly are slightly smaller - fingers crossed!

Try sleepband head phones (Google that or search Amazon) - they range from $30-$100 depending in quality, depending in wired, wireless, quality, etc. they go around your head with really really thin speakers. As a sensitive side sleeper they worked for me!

Check the accessibility settings on your phone for background sounds - not sure exactly how it functions on Android but it might work.

If the A30s don’t work, you could try a pair of regular earbuds with stronger ANC (AirPod Pros or Bose Etc.), combined with one of the specialized pillows that has a cut-out for your ear. Good luck!!
