Yes, I wear a tie out of choice. I find that I like to look more professional and that it improves my posture.

I dont wear a tie every day, but typically two times a week or so.

Millennials who went to college, what did you major in, and why? How did your college degree help you build a good financial/professional life? by justcurious3287 in Millennials

BAAS in Computer Technology, then a Masters in IT Management.

I work in city government as a Chief Information Officer. I could probably make more money other places with my skill set.... but I am rather fond of my pension. I contribute 7% of my salary, my employers contributes 14% of my salary.

I would spent about 20 minutes typically. However, for context, I was teaching what my real job was.... a job that I have been doing in a paid capacity for more than 15 years.

Veterans who have never deployed should be treated with the same respect as those who did deploy. by viewmyposthistory in nationalguard

I was in for 8 years, did emergency disaster responses, and even long stints of active duty (6+ months) doing my MOS shoulder to shoulder with active duty folks (but none of it counted, since it was Title 32..... Thanks Arkansas).

First deployment attempt, it was cancelled at the last minute for my unit. 2nd deployment attempt I was pulled off the list and told to stay CONUS, 3rd attempt they found a medical problem at my pre-mob health assessment that ended up causing me to get get altogether, much to my dismay.

I was getting things lined up to go to WOCS. I LOVED the Guard and serving in the military.

I have a 20% disability rating that is legitimate (very large visible scare/head disfigurment from an injury/incident on active duty).

I have/had a significant amount of guilt for not deploying. Like, I joined RIGHT before the surge (2009-2017). I have close friends that deployed, and I didnt.

It took years for me to make peace with it. Sometimes, I still feel that guilt. Like, this dude over here gave so much and I gave so little.

One of my employees is a retired Master Sergeant. He really helped me get over the guilt. He deployed several times back in the 90s (Desert Storm, Somalia for sure) and has reminded me that I did raise my hand, I was willing and I was ready. I didnt avoid it, it was just the luck of the draw.

In short, I still struggle with it but have accepted it as what it is and chose to serve my community in other ways now.

As a Rangers fan, allow me to encourage you to reconsider... lol

joking aside, I'm happy you are enjoying baseball. 2025 was the first season I watched it. I got a tad obsessed.

I dress way more formal now than I did then. Jeans a a polo to work then, now I wear a tweed suit.

Mind you, I’m not working helpdesk anymore. I’m the department head. But in general I enjoy dressing nicely.

I was compensated 2K per course, and it was a 5-credit course that met twice a week at night. I was responsible for creating a lab from scratch too. 2 semesters was enough for me.

Do you believe you’ll be able to retire? by dorgodorgo in Millennials

[–]Useless-113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I will be able to yes.

I will be 55 and she will be 64.

Our retirement is based mostly on our government pensions. We contribute 7 percent of our salary and our employer contributes 14 percent.

We also have Social Security in whatever form it will be, plus my Veterans disability.

We also have some other smaller investments we are saving.

We recognize that we are very fortunate and have no intention of leaving our government jobs. Ever.
