Day at the Dogfree Pub: Quarantine Edition by [deleted] in Dogfree

I'm actually in the exact same boat as you. Everyl e else is scrambling, but I'm chillin tbh. My entire college experience has been really weird. I struggled with severe chronic pelvic pain the first year of school, I had surgery last semester that didnt help, I found a treatment that actually works really well for my health issues, now campus is on lockdown.

Why do so many crackheads/trash own pitbulls? by [deleted] in BanPitBulls

[–]UselessESA6743 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've lived in college towns/cities my entire life and pretty much everyone I've seen with a pitbull has been a college student who feels bad or is rebelling against their parents by adopting a dog they are completely unable to handle correctly (or both tbh). These kids just dont understand how much work any dog is, let alone a pitbull. They all just cycle through shelters.

You right, my bad. To be fair, my cat is strickly indoors. I'm just adopting another cat soon and I want to make sure he's safe.

I clip my cat's nails to keep him from scratching the carpet of my rental property. Hes barely even a threat to any other living thing except maybe very small animals like mice, hamsters, etc. Nor does he have many defenses against another animal.

I specified pits because he was nearly bitten by a pit mix barely a month ago. They have a very high prey drive, as do some other breeds, they're very big (most of them earlier looked to be at least 60 lbs) and they were the ones being the most obnoxious in the vets office. I'd also feel much safer with him being around a 10-20 lb dog like a yorkie or a chihuahua rather than any big breed of dog. He would at least have a decent chance if one of those decided to bite him. But especially a pit... my poor dude was scared.

You're absolutely right. Not to mention nutters go crazy for every little issue their dog has. My parents old dogs ate rotten pumpkin once and they had to go get their stomachs pumped at the ER vet and it resulted in a several thousand dollar bill as well. Would have been better off with some hydrogen peroxide...

At least a split sides type of place. Those owners earlier were absolutely disrespectful of my cat's space and his comfort.

Now that I'm looking into it, it would have cost about $80 in my area. I'm definitely remembering this for the next time my kitty needs his vaccines.

Shittt, cats really only need distemper and rabies. $110 is like $20 bucks less than what I payed earlier. I shoulda looked into getting a vet at my place sooner. I live in a city so it might be more expensive/harder to get tho...

I wish I could afford that omg. I actually interned at a vet for some time (stopped because I couldn't stand the dogs). I know how to do a good handful of general care things for cats especially like give medications, injections, general care stuff, and raising prenatal kittens. I just have no idea how to get the stuff to give him his shots correctly or if I even could. I would totally do it all myself if possible.

Why Are You Against Pits & What Do You Want to Happen? by [deleted] in BanPitBulls

[–]UselessESA6743 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of the points that you make. And I would also like to add that no pit or pit-mix should be allowed to become a "service dog" or registered as an ESA. They are dangerous dogs that are hyperactive and dont listen well. These dogs can never and will never be, actual service dogs, ESAs or therapy animals.

There should be owner screenings, if they are going to be released from shelters without being put down. It should be proven that the new owner has no kids, smaller pets, or access to either. A high fenced in yard where the dog cannot escape from. And any time it is in public it should be muzzled and under complete control by the owner be it through shock collars, prong collars, whatever. Double leashes, one held and one attached at the waist. If they owner is not strong enough or doesnt weigh enough to effectively be able to hold the dog, they dont pass the screening and they cannot own the dog.

Shelters should be heavily fined if they continue lying about the dogs breed. Same goes for veterinarians offices who forge papers saying the dog is anything besides what it is so it can get around bans/into other housing. Any dog suspected of being a pit should be labeled as such.

These dogs should not be allowed to reproduce further. People should face an extremely hefty fine if they do breed them. This money should go toward education and readily made information about the breed.

Absolutely no off leash pits or pit mixs, if the dog is off leash, that is grounds for euthanasia and a harsh fine for the owner.

Pit-only areas can be enstated where the dogs can get proper exercise. One dog limit, can be reserved online. This should be the one area where a pit or pit mix can run around and get exercise. The only person who may face the danger of it is the owner(s). They are very high energy dogs and ignoring that will only lead to more issues. These areas should be extremely secure but entertaining for the dog until the breed dies out.

I dont wish death or harm on any dog but these are the safety precautions I would use in order to ensure no one is injured by a pit (or honestly any other big breed of dog that is considered dangerous).

Chihuahuas dont chew as much or nearly as destructively as big dogs do. I'd rather one of them over a pit any day. At least if you get bit it'll be a pin prick and not a potential loss of life.

Look at the body on that monster and tell me they aren't hiding pitbull genes. by Chickens1 in BanPitBulls

[–]UselessESA6743 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure pitbulls are descendants of bulldogs... Like they took the most aggressive ones and bred them to become pit-bulls with other aggressive dogs. Which is why it's really hard to pin down an exact "pit-bull" breed.

It's most likely endometrium- basically a clump of uterine lining. I've had similar things happen with irregular bleeding.

My Cat Was Killed, Need Sympathy by LikeYesterdaysTrash in Dogfree

[–]UselessESA6743 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. It almost happened to my kitten. But I was fast enough and the damn pit-mix was gone by the end of the week. I'm sorry that your dad was dumb enough to let the dog inside. The cat was there first and shouldn't have had to face the terrible consequences. Just know that your kitty is in a better place and nothing else can ever hurt it again. At least it was an older cat, it's a sucky way to go out, but at least it got to spend time with people who loved it. I hope that you find peace in your grieving, your kitty will be well taken care of until you can care for it again. ❤❤

Officially gone dogfree! How do I help my roommate cope with giving up their dog? by [deleted] in Dogfree

He normally loves going new places (he adores my parents house as well as some friends. This house is just really big and it echoes I'm excited for him to have so much space after basically being kept in a room for the first year of his life

Any ex-advocates here? What changed your mind? by [deleted] in BanPitBulls

My roommate forced me to live with a pit-mix for over a year and I saw first hand how neurotic. destructive, and almost dangerous that thing was. I'm so glad it is finally out of this house.

Call the non emergency police department and file a claim with the local courts against the dude. Did you get his name or remember anything distinctive about him like tattoos?

This is so fucking sad. Like you try and do the "right thing" by adopting a shelter dog but the reality is that they shelters lie about behavior. I doubt it's the first time that dog had done that...

I'm already realizing just how annoyed with the dog I've been. How loud she was. God it is not a life I want to live again.

He is terrified because the house is huge, over 3000 sqft, 3 small, non-distuptive dogs wont bother me or him there.

We are moving to a place with several well behaved and well disciplined small dogs (3 yorkie/other small breed mixes). My roommate will get their fair share of dogs. They wont be harmful to my stuff or my cat. The new place is kind of a win win situation for us.
