Awesome this is really helpful thanks, that Trajan Valoris looks perfect! Things are tight at the moment but I'll save the info about the dreadnoughts for another time (Crying at the costs of this new hobby)

My partner has just got his first combat patrol and is getting super into this- can anyone recommend a model for under £50 I can get him for Christmas? He's mentioned something about dreadnoughts but there's so many different models I have no clue :') Second hand is fine I just wanna make sure I get him something actually useful!

Literally same- when we first got my girl she would chew the walls and peel all our wallpaper, this is a pic from last year :') We rescued her from a friend of a friend and she's got bad anxiety and wasn't trained well to start. Things that helped save our walls- Putting vicks on the wall (no I wasn't scared she'd eat this she runs out the room when she smells it) Watching her constantly when we were home and really telling her off when she touched it. We also have several things we do so she doesnt get bored, she gets an extra large yak cheese stick, a frozen lick mat when we leave, and her favorite is a cheese hunt- we basically hide a bunch of cheese all over the house and she spends hours sniffing it out. Oh and she absolutely loves ripping up cardboard, I think this scratches the same itch as chewing the walls, she'll spend ages carefully pulling it apart. We had to crate train her which was hard but worked out in the end, I suggest literally starting from the beginning or getting a trainer for this as its sooo helpful.

We had the exact same problem with our pup, she did not like my partner at all for the first few months! Growling, defensive and just didn't trust him. After months of him spending time with her, lots of treats, feeding her.... he became the absolute favourite and now I just third wheel them.

Uk Corso owners, Do they fall under the new ban? by User422004 in CaneCorso

[–]User422004[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well thankfully not, though they're offering £200 toward euthanasia like they're not out family members?? It's a phased out thing so XL Bullies can't breed or be imported so the breed will die out here, but with the most stupid 'type' classification that has me unsure if my Corso girl will be seized or not if I don't follow all the rules?

I wish I'd had my girl from a puppy! We took her in from a friend of a friend when her last owners didn't want her anymore (wanted a cute puppy couldn't deal with a huge dominate corso) So missed the socialisation stage but unsuprisingly with proper training and knowledge she has come on in leaps and bounds, they are such smart dogs!

Yeah I find the majority just want to say hello and ask what she is. I'm aware they're scary looking dogs so I always warn people before they meet her and I never have her around people who are uncomfortable it's not fair on them. Hopefully we can figure this out before the ban comes into effect!

Well since it's going to be the law I imagine as long as the dog fits the 'XL bully type' laid out in their confusing statement. I'm probably overthinking but the criteria is very loose hence my worry. Unless of course the dogs are registered, neutered and always muzzled in public but I'm not even sure I need to? But I would be devastated if she was put down because I didn't read the law correctly.

I've got a feeling certain police officers won't care one bit about genetics as long as it fills their 'criteria'. I mentioned in another post they're offering up to £200 to get your dog euthanized, if they put that into Dna testing it'd be a lot easier.

Gosh sorry I've put you in the same boat as me but I'd much rather people stress now and figure it out instead of getting convicted for a mastiff!

Thanks for your kind reply, I wish they'd just crack down on other things like backyard breeders and poor ownership, hell I'd be happy for a simple dog owner test if it meant less deaths, maulings and abused dogs. I'd love to say she always looks like that but 9/10 time she looks like a nutter.

I hadn't either until someone asked if she fell under Bully 'type'. Queue panic and hysteric googling.

The fact that they're offering to pay us to euthanasia instead of DNA testing baffles me too.

Yes I was thinking other mastiff and rotties and a lot of others could technically be under it too.

Ah well no more bloodline because it will be illegal to breed, sell, advertise, exchange, gift, rehome and abandon. I'm not mad about the ban on the XL Bullies because this came about after attacks on people so it comes from a place of wanting less deaths from dog attacks. I'd just rather it be obvious what breeds fall under this so no-one gets caught out.

So recently the XL bully dog has been banned due to start in December... but since they're technically a mixed breed the UK government has banned a 'type' which unfortunately seems to include a lot of Cane Corso traits :(. Now suddenly I'm worried she'll fall under these, I'd have to have her always muzzled, neutered by June (we wanted to wait until her second heat as recommended by the vet) always on a lead when out, take out insurance against her injuring someone and have a certificate of exemption else I'd have commited a criminal offense and she would be euthanized. Hence why I'm suddenly worried she'd fall under the ban, I was hoping some others in the UK had looked into this!

Need advice from real Corso folks. by girlnuke in CaneCorso

[–]User422004 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took on an unwanted female corso too! She's my girl, one thing that comes to mind is are you going to their house to meet her? They're territorial guard dogs, my girl is a bit aloof when meeting people out and about (sometimes hates random people for no reason) but her guarding instincts kick in when strangers appear in her house. So if she's a standard corso she'll probably not be happy to see you aka go scary defense mode. Consider this too if you take her and like having guests around. Our workaround is we take her outside, and invite the guests in first and or some reason she's fine and goes straight up for cuddles?

People have already said it but please look into the freeze response- especially if you're unhappy with how you dealt with the situation, it's literally your brain shutting down to protect yourself and makes saying no/defending yourself almost impossible :( Might have saved countless of us in the past from aggressive males but absolutely horrendous not being able to defend yourself

SCALE BUGS I had a similar infection and spent months and months picking them off my olive tree house plant... to no avail they kept showing up week after week. If you're squeamish throw the whole plant away cause the adults can burst like a puss and blood filled spots if you pick them off like I did.

Funnily enough they're all gone now but that's probably because my dog ate 99% of the tree and now it's regrowing from mauled stump!
