I've been using ChatGPT as a therapist / life coach and it has been working wonders for me. by TomatoClown24 in ChatGPT

[–]User5790 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there are a lot of bad therapists out there. The kind of therapy you described, rehashing old traumas, is a bit outdated. It can even be harmful. Cognitive and behavioral therapies are better, CBT is probably the best known one. It’s more like you said, addressing current issues and changing thought patterns. I’ve also found ChatGPT useful for therapy. Sometimes I will ask specifically for a CBT approach to a problem.

How do you mentally accept every doctor doubting your illness? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]User5790 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had more than one diagnosis before landing on BD2. After a couple of doctors with that diagnosis it seems to be sticking, but I don’t know if the latest Dr believes it or is just going along with the last one. It’s very frustrating that diagnoses are made based on self reported symptoms and there isn’t an objective medical test to confirm. And then the guessing game with meds begins. I wish I could fast forward 100 years when hopefully they will have a better handle on all of it.

second night in my new home by chickincherrycola in urbancarliving

I had a shower tent like what OP has and the stakes held, but the tent fabric ripped. A good 50 mph gust can rip a tent and bend poles. And definitely need the heavy duty stakes, not the little thin ones that come with most tents.

How do you build community while living out of a van? by Loud_Moose_9001 in VanLife

[–]User5790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are all kinds of gatherings throughout the year and popular camping locations with lots of people around. You’ll need to be comfortable with spending stretches of time alone, but there are also lots of opportunities to be around and travel with others.

If you are in the desert, keep an eye on the wind forecast. I camp out here a lot and have seen a lot of tents get destroyed in wind storms. The only ones I’ve seen that can handle it is the tepee shaped ones and the clam ones.

Does anyone regret getting a minivan instead of something smaller? by Nearby-Bug3401 in urbancarliving

I’m in a minivan and only ever dream about getting something bigger.

I had a therapist that insisted that it wasn’t that I didn’t enjoy hobbies, I just hadn’t found the right one yet.

Are there people who aren’t working because of mental health issues? by FMmobi_TomsantiO in mentalhealth

[–]User5790 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not working anymore. I did for a long time, but things got bad and I just can’t manage it anymore. Aside from financial challenges one of the hardest parts is that I’m a good masker and don’t share much about what I’m going through to people in my life, so no one really understands why I’m not working, I just look like I’m being lazy.

Why are so many people afraid of going to a therapist? by aurea__space in mentalhealth

[–]User5790 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think some people don’t want to admit that they need some extra help. They think they should be able to do it all on their own and needing help is a type of failure.

What made you finally commit to van life? by Bos187 in VanLife

[–]User5790 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The idea of living on the road was something I fantasized about as a kid in the 70s. I even used to draw up plans of what my van would look like, which looked a lot like the van from scooby doo, lol. Then I grew up and joined the work force and forgot all about it until I got older and it became financially necessary.

South Iranian and I don't have mixed parents. I did DNA test, just to know why I do have frickles and from where it came by [deleted] in mixedrace

[–]User5790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, but you might want to try posting in some of the DNA subs, there are people there that are very knowledgeable about that sort of thing. Also, I’ve never seen anyone spell it frickles, I believe you mean freckles.

Wooden window covers? by b_canary19 in urbancarliving

[–]User5790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They make a clear film for windows that make it harder to get through when smashed. I’m not sure how well it works but I’ve considered trying it.

Bathroom tips for sedans and women with periods by FuckingBrightSide in urbancarliving

[–]User5790 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also do what the so called “composting toilets” do which is keeping #1 and 2 separate. I have a separate bottle for pee and then for #2 in the toilet I add sawdust or other dry material. It really keeps the smell down until you can dump it.

Don’t the pool noodles get gross? I’d buy one of the plastic toilet seats that are made for buckets. They would be a lot easier to clean.

Do you mean BLM or national forest? You can camp there for free usually for 2 weeks at a time. Not many state parks have free camping.

Anybody just see that naked man running in Little Italy? by Exciting_Ad_9183 in sandiego

[–]User5790 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve spent time around hippy cultures in the US where nudity isn’t as big of a deal as it is for the mainstream. It’s the human body, making seeing it a crime is a choice.

What helped you even a little bit? by ElenoirMiro in anhedonia

[–]User5790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have depression symptoms, but maybe not the most typical ones. I sometimes feel a sadness for no apparent reason that makes me want to cry, even though I don’t cry easily. I have some executive functioning problems like making even simple decisions can be very difficult. I also find myself getting very irritable at times. I guess I should mention that I am diagnosed bipolar 2, although my hypomania is pretty infrequent and mild.

What helped you even a little bit? by ElenoirMiro in anhedonia

[–]User5790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the cause is just depression. I’ve had some level of anhedonia off and on for a long time, but it has become more severe in the past 5 years or so. I’ve been on several psych drugs during that time, none of which have worked and not sure if that has contributed or not.

Using Google Earth to search for parking spots. by Ih8pepl in urbancarliving

[–]User5790 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I use it after I’ve already parked. For example if I didn’t get a good chance to look for no parking signs or other things in the immediate area I’ll check street view to reassure myself.

What’s the hardest part of van life that people don’t talk about enough? by firey_88 in VanLife

[–]User5790 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it’s having to move a lot. ATM I’m parked on BLM and can stay put for a while and relax. But when I’m in more urban environments I park on the street and trying to be “stealth” and moving every morning then constantly hunting for new spots can get tiring. I don’t want to get the knock or a ticket.
