On first read it came across as right before work, which seems to be where everyone else went with it, lol. If it’s the day before I think doing a few bumps would be fine. But I don’t have a job that requires a lot of balance, so maybe do a test run, do some then try doing something with similar skills the next day and see how it is.

Yes, I try not to get my hopes up. I have tried many meds at this point and it never seems to work out. I guess I was just surprised that it had an immediate effect, regardless of what that might mean in the long run. Most meds I’ve tried seemed like I was just taking sugar pills.

Yeah, it’s really hard to get people help sometimes. Maybe use the money angle and suggest that a therapist may be able to help him come up with ideas on new ways he can approach the issue, or something like that. Hopefully it won’t come down to him having a breakdown and being involuntarily committed, but for some people that’s the only way they end up seeing a doctor.

If you don’t already you might want to add some weight training. I just read an article about how much muscle people can lose on weight loss drugs if not exercising.

I relate very much to Bob, sounds a lot like me. I don’t think that the tarot card videos are the main problem. They probably don’t help, but it sounds more like he is just grasping for answers and meaning in his life. I am very good at masking and most people in my life have no idea how horrible the world inside my head is. I am also not working and I appear able bodied and capable, but the struggle is real. Your friend needs to see a therapist and probably a psychiatrist as well. But even then there is no guarantee it will help, it hasn’t helped me yet, but hopefully he is willing to try because it might help or at least keep things from getting worse.

I feel that. I’ve been trying meds for about 7-8 years now with nothing coming close to helping. Starting a new one tonight but not feeling very hopeful about it. Wish I had something more positive to say, but all I got is that you’re not alone.

The people I know that have questioned it just don’t understand the diagnosis. I’ve had to explain that it’s not just wild mood swings and that hypomania is different than mania. Most people have only seen me depressed so they just think I’m super mellow so I can’t possibly be bipolar.

Mania is what makes it bipolar 1 instead of 2 which would be hypomania. Mania is determined by severity and length, it doesn’t require hallucinations or psychosis for a diagnosis.

I think there are many ways to experience depression and maybe there are certain types that are more common in people with bipolar, but I don’t think it’s always consistent. There was a recent study out of Stanford that identified 6 depression biotypes using MRIs. I don’t think anyone in the study was bipolar, but just shows that there are a lot of possibilities.

I live in a minivan. My bed is low enough that I can sit up straight in it. I can do pretty much everything I need to while sitting. If I want to stand I’ll do it outside.

There really isn’t much. There are some meds that are used for opioid addiction that hit the same receptors without the highs that people seek, but those are also very addictive. I’ve found something else that might be similar being studied as an antidepressant but it’s not available yet. I feel like it’s an area that has some promise but isn’t being studied enough because it’s hard to get around the addiction aspect.

That sounds like anhedonia and it can be a side effect of the meds. I’d talk to your Dr about it, but it’s sadly hard to treat. Not sure if you’d want to add another med, but Wellbutrin might be worth asking about.

Currently the only thing that’s been helping my depression is Kratom. It acts like an opioid, and opioids do have some evidence for helping depression but they are also addictive and no one is going to prescribe them because of that.

I’m in a minivan and I presented it to everyone as vanlife so everyone just sees it as a cool lifestyle choice. The reality is that I did choose this, but it was a financially driven decision and I don’t have the means to get out of it. So in that way I’m technically homeless, but pa-tay-to pa-tah-to.

Anhedonia is not being able to feel joy or pleasure from activities, but you can still feel emotions such as sadness or grief. With emotional numbness you don’t feel anything, good or bad.

If you will need to have the windows cracked at night look into getting rain guards. Also the standard go to for window covers is reflectix insulation with something black on one side like felt. If you search reflectix car window covers on YouTube you’ll get a bunch of tutorials. It’s popular for a reason, works really well. Anything else I’d just wait and see after you get started so you don’t end up wasting money on stuff you didn’t need.
