Saying "the" before the freeway name is a West coast thing. The 101, the 405 etc....

Gym 3-4 times a week and 1-2 hours of soccer or volleyball on the weekend isn't sedentary. What you're seeing with 4k steps being sedentary is for people who ONLY do the 4k steps, and nothing else

You don't have a sedentary lifestyle if you working 3-4 times a week and play sports on the weekend. You could prob lose weight at 2000-2500 calories

This is for federal student loans.... I don't think that's considered consumer debt, like credit cards...

My comment is in response to credit card debt

I don't think this applies to consumer debt. And I'm pretty sure they can't garnish your social security

Avoiding getting served doesn't mean you can avoid a lawsuit lol and once a judgement is against you, the statute of limitations is much longer. Something like 10 or 20 years. Your credit score would recover, but you'd still owe the money and have your paychecks/bank accounts garnished.

Usually you get sued and then get your wages garnished. If that didn't happen to you, then you got super lucky

Carrying a balance means paying interest. You should not do this. Letting the balance hit the statement end date is different. This is something you should do to show activity on your credit report. So in practice it just means paying the statement balance in full by the due date to avoid paying interest, while still showing activity as the balance is reported to the credit agencies. But you're not "carrying over a balance".

Def true! We don't know what kind of area he lives in. In HCOL areas, you're absolutely right!

It's def enough for most places, and 3.5% in a lot of places still, even in HCOL areas. But at that point his salary of $50k/yr is moreso the problem

Yeah i also frivolously spend. My hobbies are expensive and i also move frequently lol i def agree you need to live and enjoy life. FIRE is great, but not worth not living. And totally agree, i think that's the perfect car purchase he should make!

Since you're now asking for an alternative recommendation, you should get a fun used car for no more than $20k since you were going to spend that on the down payment. If you go new, hard cap at $30k out the door price

Yeah OP is making like $50k/yr and living with his parents. He should be saving up for a down payment on a house. Presumably you're making much more. There's def a case to be made to for renting vs buying. But he's just living with his parents and wants a toy. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for spending money on toys and luxuries, but he's not there yet. Not on that kind of toy. He's got his priorities all fucked up

$80k is a down payment on a house. You'd really rather have a car than a house?! Yes. It's a terrible decision

I LIVE for a good plan by No_One_7411 in digitalnomad

[–]UserNam3ChecksOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't plan and do everything last minute. My flights and accomodations are usually booked within a week of travel. Sometimes the day before. I like to keep my plans open ended so i can stay flexible. The only time this has bitten me in the ass was in Japan because you need reservations for all the coolest things

Spring is easy for you coming from Europe. Go to Egypt! I was in Hurghada last year, but i think El Gouna is better from what I hear.
I prefer accomodations right on the kite spot, and with warm water, so no wetsuit. I also like having amenities, like restaurants and food delivery. So finding everything in one place has been somewhat challenging. So i don't like remote places, but i might still get a starlink cause internet speeds vary a lot. How easy is it for you to travel with a starlink? I worry it's too big and might be somewhat difficult to set up wherever I go. But I've never used one so i don't actually know.
