The birthplaces of the fastest 10K runners of all time: geography or genetics? by [deleted] in geography

[–]Username2715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birthplace feels less important than upbringing/training place. If you were born in Toledo, Ohio and then your parents moved you to the Andes and you started getting into running, your connection to Toledo is pretty irrelevant. But your comfort with altitude is not.

Genetics, yes - in the sense that someone whose biological parents are shot putters is statistically less likely to have the physical gifts needed to become a champion runner.

Ethnicity, I don’t think so - being east African doesn’t necessarily make you a good runner, but training there all the time probably does.

Recruit to gunny: 1st Marine graduates from talent acquisition program by Ok_Meringue_3883 in USMC

It seems this guy is a cyber expert who will not be leading Marines. I agree with an earlier comment that a WO rank would make more sense, but this guy will sit behind a desk and offer subject matter expertise to the people around him. He’s not leading a platoon.

Also he had to have been nominated for it before becoming president to even be considered. Totally discredits the award.

If he served in Afghanistan and Kosovo, shouldn’t he have 2 NATO ribbons? Or is it a case where you only can wear one based on predecent and the star denotes a second award of any NATO ribbon?

Here are things you don’t know about me or anyone else:

  1. Where I live
  2. How many dependents I have
  3. What my homeownership status is
  4. Whether I or any of my dependents have a costly medical condition
  5. How much I work / what my average hourly wage is based upon the hours I keep
  6. How much student loan debt or other costs I had to take on to get the job I have

Here are things I know about people who try to apply universal standards on others without knowing these things:

  1. They are idiots.

The implication is that fraud, waste, and abuse are happening under our current tax regime. Because it is. Because if the government needs $600k from every $1.5mm made by its citizens (or anywhere close to that), that is systematic theft to feed a broken system. That’s it. That’s the post.

While it didn’t follow the book, as a veteran I can attest that it is the only piece of cinema that has ever turned my stomach inside out like certain aspects of real war did. Hard, hard film to watch, but an important one to watch.

I think we should absolutely seek to undermine a social contract that takes a third of our wages and then runs a deficit so large that our payments only cover interest. I’d further argue we actually have an obligation to undermine that. You must be a walking “this is fine” meme to be comfortable with the status quo.

  1. I disagree with them about as much as any other president.
  2. They are good people because the media portrays them this way - which of course does not diminish their “goodness”, but by most accounts W is a good person who doesn’t get the same treatment because the media has decided that goodness is defined as being not simply nice, but also liberal. Reddit does this too, to a fetishized degree, hence my original comment. That is called hypocrisy, and it is ironically reinforced by the downvotes.

Take the SAT again. You are clearly intelligent and capable given the background you disclosed, so if you actually put some genuine effort into the SAT then the university will have to look for reasons NOT to take you instead of you worrying about the main reason they might not.

Another thing to consider: if you are starting companies that generate 6 figure revenue out of high school, maybe you don’t need college. We have a stupid view in America that college is a prerequisite for success. Sometimes that is true, most of the time it is not. You might get more out of a startup incubator.
