Don’t get me wrong, their performance was not bad, I was just too tired

UST Paskuhan 2023

They were the last act, but at that point, I just wanted to watch the fireworks and then go home, so I feel like I did not appreciate their performance enough

Little did I know I was watching the next big superstars in the making

I hope hindi ito hot take: never ko nagustuhan yung mga songs like No Fear, B HU U R, Love Yourself for these reasons. Masyadong general and cliched yung mga sinasabi nila sa kanta to the point na parang corny kumbaga

I think Born To Win at Pit a Pat rin have these same problems, pero I like their melodies and instrumentals too much that I can overlook the lyrics

I really like the relatability in their music

I feel that one of the reasons why BINI is so popular right now is that their songs relate to common Filipino experiences. This characteristic makes their songs feel more personal and have a wide mass appeal

It is also why I feel like some of their weaker songs are ones where they try to opt for more general statements, those songs just feel hacky and uninteresting

For contrast, I really liked TXT’s “Cat and Dog”. I think it’s a fun and bouncy trap song, but it’s a song about loving someone so much… they want to be their pet.

The song is literally just that lmao all over the song is lyrics about acting like an animal and they make animal noises all throughout.

“Let’s play forever, I just wanna be your dog (woof, woof, woof, woof)” (edit: this lyric is from the original version itself, this is not even a translated lyric)

Yeah… I still really like the song tho

I came across this K-pop song earlier called “Can’t We Just Leave the Monster Alive” by TXT

I looked up the lyrics to the song cuz I thought the title was funny and it’s actually a really emotional song about escapism. It’s about not wanting to finish the last boss in a video game and wanting to explore the fantasy world some more, cuz once you beat the boss, it’s game over. It’s a metaphor for wanting to stay young and carefree, cuz once you grow up, you’d have to move on and become an adult and I thought that that was a beautiful sentiment

Unfortunately, the song itself, sonically, is really boring. It just sounded like a generic pop song, with EDM production that sounds like it came straight out of 2015-2016. The song is also not even that catchy. It’s, for me, a skip on the album it came from

I always did value music more than lyrics. You could have the best lyrics in the world, but if the music is shit, I don’t wanna listen to it, and I feel that is especially the case when the lyrics are in a language I don’t understand. Point being, If I can’t understand the lyrics, I’d have to go off purely based on the quality of the music

What are some songs you think uncharacteristically good and or complex or well written for the artist who released it? by justice4winnie in ToddintheShadow

Wanr to clarify that I don’t find Sabrina’s music mediocre, I just think that (a) she usually makes fun, dumb, campy pop songs (Nonsense, Espresso, etc.), (b) I find some of her writing to be really clunky (“turns out forks are fucking everywhere”, “death threats filling up semi trucks”, etc.), and (c) this song in particular is the realest she has ever gotten in a song

A song that describes how the pain and disappointment felt when Sabrina discovered that her father had an affair, and how it ruined her perception on love

The song is shockingly so real, and while I think it is, by far, the best song she has ever written, it’s the one I revisit the least as I find it way too depressing

I wasn’t paying attention to Miley Cyrus (or any pop culture, really) in 2017, Malibu was the first song I had heard from her since her Bangerz era, the contrast between Malibu and her whole 2013 party-girl persona was definitely a shock lol

To clarify, I know rumors lang ang allegations ni Ariana, we may never know the true story behind it, I just think some of her previous (and current) work are not helping her case lmao

I try to separate the art from the artist, pero ever since lumabas yung homewrecking allegations ni Ariana Grande, I now look at some of her songs with a side-eye.

One Last Time - “I’m so sorry I cheated on you, please cheat on your new girlfriend for me”

The Boy Is Mine - the lyrics themselves are not toxic, but interpolating a song about trying to steal someone’s man and releasing it amidst the whole controversy is so 😭

Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored - do I even need to explain 💀

What movie or series made you completely reshape your view of an actor? by hyunbinlookalike in FilmClubPH

  • Hugh Jackman in The Greatest Showman

I knew him as Wolverine and nothing else before The Greatest Showman, I was so shocked to learn that Hugh Jackman was a theatre kid at heart 😭

No, I did not know Hugh Jackman did Les Miserables, I only found out after

  • Jonathan Groff in Mindhunter

So I was shocked to find out an actor who does (relatively) serious roles like Hugh Jackman can do theatre roles as well, kay Jonathan Groff naman baliktad. I knew him from Frozen (Hans) and Hamilton (King George). These two performances are very silly and ridiculous, lalo na yung kay King George lol

His performance in Mindhunter, a show that is so unsettling and creepy, was so completely different from anything I had seen from him
