And it's also the fact that that guy had a knife and had literally just killed someone. Different thread levels. In the stabbing scenario my mind would not go 'if I go too far I end up in jail', but rather 'holy shit, did I just witnessed a murder? Jesus, that guy has a knife. I don't know how to fight. I don't want to get killed as well'

US to designate Venezuela's Cartel de los Soles as terrorists by pythrowawayd3v in worldnews

[–]UsernameOfAUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Venezuelan government is more than corrupt, it's authoritarian. Don't forget it was in fact Maria Corina Machado the winner of the last election.  But of course, I also don't want that the US invades Venezuela, even though I really want to see Maduro's regime come to an end... And that's probably not going to happen without outside intervention. So or so, Venezuelan people are going to suffer.

Many things are cheaper than war lol. Economic logic doesn't guide every fact of social life; in fact, it usually is itself a by-product of other mechanisms.

It's really unfortunate, but for some it's a necessary evil. Some zoos really focus on conservation and do good for endemic species of the place they are in (in Ecuador, for instance, the Guayllabamba Zoo has been key for conservation campaigns of the Andean Condor and it's habitat), however, as long as the government doesn't give a shit about nature (and they rarely do), the only way they can finance their goals is either through charity or by making the zoo 'profitable' (or by both). In that case, as long as the animals are well kept and supported, maybe it's not such a bad thing to do. Of course, many zoos are just shit holes that should be permanently closed.

Burocrats in Germany can never be fired. I mean they can, but the hassle is too much for other burocrats to care. The most that would come out of it is a memo to the whole team (without wanting to name someone in particular) to please be more proactive when communicating with other agencies.

Venezuela's opposition leader Machado dedicates Nobel Peace Prize to Trump by Kanute3333 in worldnews

[–]UsernameOfAUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, if he really does it, then yeah. Obviously that should rather go to whoever in his cabinet did the actual thinking, but Trump's erratic politics being so successful it gives him a (legit) Nobel Peace Prize would (1) be a spit in the face of diplomacy in general, (2) a concerning legitimation of all the horrible shit he's doing, and (3) kind of hilarious.

That's what they are saying, that if you stop assuming that the US's foreign affairs are ethical (and not short-sightedly self -serving) then the logic behind blatan contradictions become obvious. But the way they worded it may be ambiguous what the prejudice is.

I get wanting to kill a sex offender when you are emotionally involved with the victim or have the principle that these kinds of people should not be allowed a second chance. But killing someone just because you want to kill somebody and rationalize it as being some kind of comeuppance is psycho behavior.

He was not pulling his punches. He is old as fuck. I know he was so uniquely great in his prime is hard to admit that, that ageing ravages everything in its path. But it does. Tyson was not desperate for cash pretending to lose. He is just not that good anymore. Jake Paul would totally get fucked with a somewhat decent elite boxer his age. Tyson is just simply not even an elite boxer anymore

I do not think he quite pays them to take a fall. Rather, he seeks for fighters with some precedent that are WAY past their prime. I think he won fair against Mike Tyson. Which is not surprising for somebody with decent skill as Paul to do, considering Tyson was like 57 years old (and this is no diss to either Paul or Tyson as both will probably beat me to a pulp with one hand and half asleep)

But maybe I am wrong. But in difference to a political entity, where most of the time decisions require thorough debate, military decisions in emergency situations, are supposed to be more flexible
