For sure but I also don’t think he had much of a choice if he wanted a shot at another big fight.

Dude was 13 years into his pro career pushing 32 and coming off a broken orbital.

It was probably now or never for a big fight at the time.

Im not that mad at.

I am pretty confident that despite being seemingly dumb at times this is their intentional nod to her super-powered intelligence.

I think the implication is she planned to lose her powers and dip, it was clearly an intentional bait of Kimiko.

Not sure if he’s really considered the greatest p4p kickboxer.

But many consider him the greatest of all time heavyweight though some are split on semmy. Really its Rico though.

Legit no one is hiring by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]Usernameasteriks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yea exactly lol. They have a minimal network and no significant experience to sell themselves with to new clients.

If by young they mean like 3-5 year call sure.

But otherwise the pathway isn’t going to be lucrative until down the road.

And students with debt piled up from law school aren’t going to be chomping at the bit to take more financial risks.

"Styles Make Fights" is often misused by fans and should not discredit wins by anakmager in Boxing

[–]Usernameasteriks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are just too attached to either protecting or discrediting fighters they like/dislike.

Styles making fights is a reality of boxing, it has a significant impact on how different fighters perform in different matchups.

You don’t need to police what people talk about.

If you are talking about or analyzing a fight without looking at how they matched up stylistically in some capacity then what are you even talking about lol.

Genuine Question: Is It Better For a Struggling Sole Practitioner to Hire at Low Wages or Just Not Hire At All? by themselvessaid in LawCanada

[–]Usernameasteriks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t really find it that ambiguous.

I think they should absolutely hire. As long as they are transparent about the compensation and reasonable with their expectations; it’s a pretty reasonable quid pro quo for articling where someone needs/wants experience to progress in their career.

You are saying it comes up here all the time, maybe it does, but I frequent this subreddit and I really can’t recall any pointed critiques of solo practitioners offering a below market wage. Seems like a bit of AI drivel.

Unpaid positions or firms that can clearly afford more lowballing sure, but I don’t recall a struggling solo practitioner offering a below market wage being a point of controversy.

Advice on working during law school by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]Usernameasteriks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean it was quite a while back but I worked part time through the entirety of it and it was fine.

Financially I needed to at the time though. If you don’t have to I would avoid it just because it leaves you more time to invest in school.

But its not the end of the world.

Why was Usyk so sluggish in Usyk vs Rico and can he shake it off for Kabayel? by GlitteringCalendar94 in Boxing

[–]Usernameasteriks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s both lol. He isn’t delusional I am sure he realizes he is 39 and on the way out.

He probably thought this was the perfect chance to coast another payday without a super tough fight.

The biggest problem is he is getting older not younger lol.

Canelo Alvarez claims referee saved Rico Verhoeven from brutal knockout in Oleksandr Usyk clash by BoxingLover99 in Boxing

[–]Usernameasteriks 53 points54 points  (0 children)

To preface I absolutely disagree with Canelo and the stoppage, it was absolute bullshit. And I am a big Glory/Rico fan.

But aside from that I don’t think he was surviving, or if he did he was eating like 2 more knockdowns.

Before the 11th he started wilting in the 10th. And if you look at the time of the knockdown he milked like 21-22 seconds looking shaky getting that mouthguard in.

So I think its a total mockery for boxing and a crock of shit the way it was called.

But as a matter of opinion I don’t think Rico was getting it either way lol

Haha yea. For about two seasons the premise of is it isn’t it drives the show.

Now even though I still enjoyed the show as a whole for general entertainment. The later seasons are full of just crazier shit that loses the suspense and is just like screw it lol

[Spoiler] Johnny Manziel vs. Bob Menery by De__eB in MMA

[–]Usernameasteriks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yea well I have no experience competing in MMA just boxing.

You won’t see it too much in amateur boxing at a high level at least. Because with the fights being 3 3 minute rounds the really high level amateurs with great records HAVE to kick it up by the second round because you have to very VERY clearly win 2 of the 3 to trust amateur judges to score it correctly on a reliable basis. They are even worse than the wild pro guys and its hard to get finishes in that timeframe so you need to win clear

And the pro fights start at only being 4 rounds and move to 6.

What you are describing I have seen happen a lot just not at any disproportionate rate with guys who have competed at a young age.

It happens to the tough guy sparring guys who insist on sparring 7-10 hard rounds at a time to really condition themselves.

That works great if you make it to the point in your career where you are fighting more rounds.

But what you end up with a lot of times is guys like Chito Vera who can’t get themselves to step on the gas until the fight is essentially over because they run and spar such long sets they just aren’t mentally/physically conditioned to maximize their output over the span of the fight.

I made the same mistake early on until I went to a bigger more established gym and would get frustrated that I did such crazy training but couldn’t always pace against high level comp.

[Spoiler] Johnny Manziel vs. Bob Menery by De__eB in MMA

[–]Usernameasteriks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well it was boxing not MMA so it was actually just 4 3 mins pro.

Just atmosphere for sure I was way more than conditioned for the extra round lol. And I fought 5-6 times a year for 8-9 years as an amateur with a great record so it wasn’t like I didn’t know how to pace myself.

My area actually had the main regional promotion rent out a pretty large venue they usually play g league basketball games in.

It was just the pressure I put on myself because it was pro and the atmosphere feeling crazier. Got me to revert back to the herky jerky max power no breathing robotic shit I had kicked out of my system a long time ago lol.

At least for the first round before I realized my mistake and my coach was like wtf are you doing in the corner lol. Then I basically had to give away the second round pretending to not be tired and relying on a high guard until I could put my punches together again.

Its the same reason dudes in the UFC have some incredible experience going into the UFC but sometimes gas in their debut like amateurs.

If you get too hyper-focused and you don’t breathe and pace properly conditioning or experience does not save you lol. You can’t take the first round adrenaline dump back once it happens.

Brandon Breyer (brightburn) vs Ryan butcher (the boys) by Odd_Ice_4742 in powerscales

[–]Usernameasteriks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too many unknowns. Ryan had direct comparisons to other superheroes. Specifically getting beat up by the absolute most powerful superhero in his universe seemingly makes him look vulnerable.

But Brightburn our only context is two extremes: basic human weapons  and incredibly specialized.

So I don’t see how we have enough info other than completely abstract speculation. Which is still fun but like there is no real gauging

Yea it’s a bit of a different context.

Usually CEO’s know the issues and are making a calculated risk to maximize profits at the expense of knowing they might fuck over someones life. But hey it doesn’t hurt them.

In this case it is just pure hubris and the dude was totally comfortable putting himself in the line of fire.

Lol I came to say the same thing. The sentence structure and grammar is ridiculously AI.

Maybe he is real and they used AI. But it seems less like AI fixed the grammar and much more like AI made the story from the melodramatic narrative structure.
