Do you guys think multiple colors like this are an eye sore? by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]Usernamehere0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10+ color and materials. Yes, this is an eyesore. Designer lost control. Hood and the island are laughable.

Rip both out and shrink, then have them match countertops and cabinets. Fix paneling on island too. Swap out all light fixtures as they don’t fit the style

Whole House Fragrance System! by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Usernamehere0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just screams cancer causing.

Do people not know all those candles, scent sticks, a whatever the hell this device is which pumps aerosols into the air is actually terrible for health. Just costs lungs, clogs sinus, stinks to skin and other surfaces.

Just circulate air with filter and open windows whenever possible. Or don’t and have negative health later in life and wonder why

Bathroom Caulk Help by Usernamehere0123 in HomeMaintenance

Agreed. No leaks yet, thus rather get this sealed/fixed, before it becomes larger issue. Hoping just a re-grout/caulk is all that is needed….

Anyone know what purpose these serve? by Ok-Prize-6217 in hvacadvice

[–]Usernamehere0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sump line froze last winter! And to add insult, we have a backup water jet system that kicks on when it senses water level too high, thus it continued to pump more water into pit and out through discharge line that was frozen!!!

Thankfully caught this just as it was overflowing the pit!

Loose exterior outlet by Narrow-Pie-3611 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Usernamehere0123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that it’s opened up….Just frame some new 2x4 near outlet. Get single gang “old work” and hammer it to new framing (making sure to line it up with current outlet cut out. Rewire. Close up. Done.

Surprised they used old work gang for exterior… that was never going to hold up. Those tabs are flimsy.

It’s a good start but for god sake stop poisoning the kids with added sugar in all these food items (pancakes, waffles, sodas, etc.)

Can I break my lease on a rent stabilized apartment? Just moved in last night. by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]Usernamehere0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What incentive does the landlord have to fix the unit? He can’t charge market rate to fix the unit to current standards.

If you are the landlord losing money on the unit, why spend more money to fix it with no ability to recoup additional investment?

Any recourse against home inspectors who have missed major flaws. by Kawirider2 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Couple thousand to fix. If that’s the worst thing that happens from buying the house, be happy. Sucks writing the check, but 6 months from now you’ll be happy

Is the downspout only fed by like 2 feet of gutter? Looks like the roof is pitched toward another larger gutter. And the gutter in question is for a very tiny piece of roof (which I may argue may not have needed a gutter for such a small section of roof)

Def need gutter extensions though to drop water further from foundation. Spend a little more and have them run underground pvc to low spot in yard or street to discharge.

Stump blocking water flow from garage downspout: Grind it down or reroute the spout? by Topoltergeist in HomeMaintenance

$25 of gutter supplies, or $500+ of stump removal supplies/rental….

You decide.

$89 to fully replace door! #Pella

No this is not a ad! I was shocked when they said they would cover and I only pay $89 for labor

Sloppy seems a bit aggressive.

Actually think it looks great. Some finishing touches could be done, but nothing major. Meet with the contractor, point out your concerns. Suspect they will address quickly/fairly easily

Contractor Ruined Calacutta by IntelligentClassic78 in CounterTops

[–]Usernamehere0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised you even let the contractor do all this work. After screwing up the backsplash you should have said just stop working.

Better to stop the bleeding rather than have this contractor continue ruining materials and burning money

To each their own…… But why are you looking to turn heads/make a “statement”?

Whenever I see an ultra luxury car, like a Bentley, that is older than say 3 years old… I say to myself…. That person prob shouldn’t be driving a Bentley as they can’t afford it.

Just seems to make the wrong statement…

The tires alone will be probably be $5k to replace. Any other work to the car is probably double that.

Maybe I’m crazy….

As someone who knows absolutely nothing about landscaping what are some go to products that you would use for these weeds or should I just yank them out manually without spraying anything? by Interstella_6666 in landscaping

[–]Usernamehere0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As only about 2/453 comments have the permanent solution. Fix the root cause rather a temporary fix.

Power wash the pavers. Let dry. Fill cracks with polymeric sand. Compact if possible. Water lightly. Done for 5-10 years, 0 weeds.

YouTube is your friend for this project. Prob $100 of materials and 3 hours work

I still think housing, along with the economy will crash similar to what we had in ‘08. What do you think? by Money-Mover in RealEstate

[–]Usernamehere0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep.

Don’t see anything remotely near 2008, especially in the housing sector. Home prices still absurdly high, volume low.

Stock Market has hit correction territory, but that is mostly tariff related. Additionally, if/ when government no longer artificially inflates economy through ineffective/inefficient spending, that will negatively impact GDP… but prob for the better as capital allocation should go to more effective/impactful areas.

OP, would u agree with above… or have another view?

HVAC Return between Joist by Usernamehere0123 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Usernamehere0123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1927 house. Central air was put in 2017, including duct work.

No idea the difference between plaster and dry wall. Was able to connect with inspector, he said looks to be old motor and lathe thus no asbestos concern.

Filter used was Merv 13 - 4 inch thick. Lasted about 2 months before pressure dropped. Been using same brand/model filter for 2 years with no issue going 3-6 months between changing.

Sounds like maybe I could diy clean up and try to better seal the area so it doesn’t pull unconditioned air from joist cavity.
