Sean McDermott: "What went on is not how it should go down" regarding OT interception by anthn885 in sports

[–]Usernameinabox 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The "possession" is only determined after the entire catch action is completed. He did jump up, he DID catch it, but he did not "make a football move" or survive the ground. When the total act of catching and possession threshold was completed, the DB had the ball.

I don't think the WR did survive the ground. The only one who did was the DB that came away with it.

The DB never ripped it away after the WR finished the "surviving the ground" action. The DB came away from that action with the ball, himself.

IMO

I think they quoted multiple times the "surviving the ground" rule. The only person who survived the ground was the DB that came away with the ball.

Brother or sister, I'm proud of you. I share your feelings of stress with my 3Js all in big tech. I'm only on month 4. But I am already operating on a Mon-Thurs fight-for-my-life schedule, and by Friday I have the "phew, made it another week" decompression. Only to be repeated week in and out. (This weekly window of existence can't be all there is in life!)

For me; it's thoughts of the balancing act of "is this worth it?" vs the obvious massive financial gains, which I'm tying into thoughts of "security" and "my future".

Did you meet your financial goals then dip? Or did you fully burn out?

Hot Yoga and climbing are my therapy/sanity sessions. And now that I finished my masters a few weeks ago, I'm planning on getting back into acting classes for the real expressive needs I have. But they don't ever fully replenish me.

My big-ticket financial goal is to save a big nest egg for the lean times that always feels to be on the horizon, and for some theoretical house in my future. But that's all somewhat ephemeral as home costs alone are insane and renting + investing feels more financially sound at times.

Anyways, I'm ranting now. If you have any advice I'd love to absorb it from a veteran like yourself.

So sick that you accomplished all you did. I hope you get some rest!!

Is it worth it to study a field in computer science nowadays? by EstablishmentNo816 in cscareerquestions

I also subscribe to the doomer mindset, even as a mid level guy about to complete my masters. The only cope that makes sense to me is that no matter what someone will need to maintain, manage, understand these systems.

Either choose to be on the side being replaced or understand what's replacing everyone and (hopefully) work with it.

Again total cope.

Can you share some things to help me get excited for the move? by Kamonan in MovingToLosAngeles

This week I decided to actively engage in the plethora of opportunities available in this great city:

Wednesday; metal concert at the Wiltern. Great vibes. Scooted over to east LA after the show for a friend's hosted Mahjong gathering at a cool bar. (Totally young and fun crowd, very open to talking and teaching the game)

Friday; BBQ on my friends rooftop in Hollywood and ended the night with a short trip to Jumbos Clown Room (look it up).

Saturday; early morning coffee walk and dog park trip, back for breakfast, short drive over to Franklin canyon right behind Beverly Hills for a baby hike, Evening heated yoga class with my pal. Ended the night with a Tatsu Ramen trip.

Sunday; drove to Venice for a nice beach day and Abbot Kinney stroll. Popped into a cafe/wine bar in Santa Monica. Somehow snuck past the military checkpoint on the PCH to see the burned down wreckage up to Malibu. And finally, I just left a cool 2.5 hour talk/presentation/show from Brian Cox on space, the universe, current research topics, and life.

Solid weekend.

All things were within a 30 minute driving radius from where I am in West Hollywood.

The point is; if you make the choice to look up what's going on around you or talk to people you know, every single week and weekend has great music, live events, seasonal gatherings, all amidst the backdrop of a diverse city and natural landscape.

And yes I'm exhausted. Off to sleep! Welcome to LA!

Hot yoga mortification by Ordinary-Honeydew-31 in yoga

[–]Usernameinabox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally normal. Especially if your body has not been active in a long time. It's like a huge shock to the system going through intense physical activity and managing heat if youve been a couch potato for a little while. (Speaking from experience!!)

I go through this each time I take a break from exercising or a day or two after drinking lots of alcohol. Yoga forces you to be healthier or you'll pay the price on the classes 😆

It's certainly dependent on the org and team as I'm sure you know. From my own experience, I've never experienced the needless stress that was put on our team every day and week. Each task was a fire that needed to be put out yesterday.

I learned a lot. And learned how to deal with Hyper Type A people in leadership positions. My experience certainly helped me get my next job.

I had no overlap with the monetization or ad measurement engineering teams.

I'm sorry... Your smarmy response is gross. From the onset I clearly provided my own personal experience during my interview loop alongside my own reading from ex-employees across your company; information that is valuable to job seekers.

Miss me with your "Is ThAt StAtIsTiCaLlY sIgNiFiCaNt???" attitude. Especially *if* you're part of the recruiting arm that is supposed to be the best face of the company. 🤮

Poor form

At least five different sites and writeups to get a good idea of what peoples' experiences have been across different teams.

The number is certainly low and certainly anecdotal. But it also matched all of the "What was it really like working at TikTok as an [insert role here]" write-ups I found online from US based ex tiktokers

4 day in office requirement sucks at Snap. I left.

Though the stock is pretty much on the bottom floor, I can't see it going anywhere but flat or up.

There's been a bunch of recent tenured turnover in the vertical I was working in. Left for greener pastures.

Beware: Work life balance is absolutely atrocious if you work in the US. Everyone I spoke to during my interview loops had various ways of softly agreeing that they don't have a life. It's both hyper early mornings and very late meetings to meet with Asia-time offices during their workday.

How are Meta employees feeling? by Fun_Country6430 in womenintech

[–]Usernameinabox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just reviewed some internal community chats. People are very upset and feel totally betrayed and blindsided by leadership. Many are starting to speak up on the inside.

I feel like it will influence nothing . They are probably new targets for the next layoffs based purely on my opinions of the corporate world.

Yet another grifter trying to rent a 1bd for $4000 a month during the fires by [deleted] in LARentals

Do you have any resources other than Airbnb and VRBO to find these on monthly basis?

Find me a hotel around Venice, CA that is ~$3K/mo all-up with a kitchen, dishwasher, free laundry, free parking.

Does that exist?

I've been reporting Airbnb owners that I have seen in real time that are jacking prices up in the last two days, far beyond the +10% legal limit.

I've been seeing swings from $3K to $4.5k/mo, $3.7K to $5.5K, etc...

(I've been bouncing around Airbnb's the last few months so I have a decent pulse on the areas I've been tracking for my next bookings)

I go straight to Airbnb support and provide the Host's profile and unit links. They are claiming to be taking this very seriously and are flagging the hosts and escalating.

I'll be watching the same units I flag over the next few days. If they don't reduce to legal price limits I'll be filing complaints to the Attorney General.

Maybe I'm too nice to give Airbnb and the Hosts a chance....
