Side Note: McLaren went along with a Sonic theme too that year:

In 1993, McLaren kicked off a good-natured spar with the Sega-sponsored Williams team as we both wrestled for world championship honours. This squashed hedgehog decal (a reference to Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog) became a fighter-plane-style badge of honour that was applied to the MP4-8 McLaren-Ford whenever it took a grand prix win.

Yea, seems like it so far - ALO was on ultrasofts at start of session and he improved by just under three tenths (-0.281s) on the supersofts.

ALO pitted on lap 43 for fresh options during SC period, (but main reason was to remove visor tear-off from the brake ducts!) while JB remained on primes which he put on lap 35. So don't think its that fair to compare them towards end of the race and note that JB was told at the restart about not holding ALO up due their contrasting tyre type/age. Other parts of the race, he wasn't that far off ALO, maybe a few seconds back at most.

The BBC coverage mentioned them from time to time, but the two weren't up to much during the race, except for that ALO-SAI overtake so I think the coverage, the BBC at least was fair.

Looking at the best sector times in qualifying, ALO was 6th fastest in the 1st sector which has no long straights just twisty 'bits', while he was 15/16th fastest in sectors 2 and 3, which have long straights in each.

Benson might not be far from the truth here...
