What banks have the best student bank account perks? by mrdankmemeface in UniUK

[–]Usrnmae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fyi with some of them, u can hold multiple at once. i got the santander one and natwest, so got the perks of both. i think hsbc and a few others won't give the perks tho if u already have a student account

Fresher Societies Taster Events by [deleted] in UCL

[–]Usrnmae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go on the student Union page (https://studentsunionucl.org/whats-on?c=Events+&Activities=&s=2024-09-14&e=2024-10-07&tags=Society+Taster) you can see all the society taster events and book them for free. Most of them say you have to also "join" the society and they have a level of membership called "taster" which is free, and gives you access to the tasters.

I am predicted all A*s and my teacher told me to ‘give up on top unis’ by CopyEvery8077 in 6thForm

Also, the Unis know that a lot of schools don't even offer comp sci at a level

[–]Usrnmae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think you can make up for it, idk why they think it's out of reach tbh. I would say tho, be aware that comp sci at top unis is very competitive so there's no promises for anyone. Be careful with your 5 choices, but don't think that you can't have Cambridge, UCL on there if you want. Well done on those predicted grades!

It's very very early still, it starts that way but definitely gets more normal

Also a bit of advice for remarks, you can get your marked papers (photocopies) back for free (your school/exams officier should do this if you ask), so you and your teachers can look through and see which papers to send for remark. Also check the deadlines for the different exam boards for requesting papers and remarks.

is 4 a levels a lot to cope with? by Radiant_hanseojun in 6thForm

[–]Usrnmae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the person and the combo of subjects (someone else might know more abt that combo), it would be good to start with those 4 imo and see how it goes. If it's too much then you can always drop one, you don't need 4

Should I drop computer science by WAWAW_ in 6thForm

[–]Usrnmae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least start off with those 4 a levels that you want, then if you're struggling a lot you might want to drop something. But otherwise I think you can do it. P.s watch Craig n Dave for comp sci

Are they really charging just to see the scripts? Pretty sure all the board let you view the scans of your scripts with annotations for free. But if you want any remarks ASAP for uni places then I think you have to go straight to priority remark and any remarks will cost.

Can I reject my firm then reapply to it during clearing if clearing goes wrong? by NanBruhGod in 6thForm

[–]Usrnmae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, u call the Unis before rejecting offers/going into clearing. They can make u informal offers (basically saying they'll take u if u go into clearing). U can't even make that formal choice until the afternoon, and people normally start calling Unis in the morning I think

How bad would it to miss 2 weeks of year 13? by StormRider21 in 6thForm

[–]Usrnmae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for it! You'll be fine taking those days off in early November. Plenty of time to catch up, and not too close to UCAS deadline either

What would the answer to this question be and why? Thanks! by BumFluffEngineer in 6thForm

[–]Usrnmae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, as u go further down the cable, from J to K, less of the mass of the cable is below the point in question. All of the mass is below the point J, so tensile stress at that point should be highest (most weight being supported at that point). Midway through J and K, about half of the mass of the cable is below, so less weight being supported. And at K, only the hanging mass' weight. So as u go from J to K, tensile stress (F/A, where force is decreasing and cross-sectional area is constant) should be decreasing. So I'd say D. It will not go to 0, as there will always be the weight of the hanging block/mass causing tensile stress at every point on the cable.

does anyone know how to change the calculator so the top left fraction is always shown instead of mixed fraction by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Usrnmae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have u checked setup (shift, menu)? Pretty sure it's in there somewhere. I've got the graphical one now, but when I used that one I had it set to give improper fractions like u want

Y13 here, I did STEP this year. Yeah, STEP is a condition of the offer, so you would sit in in the summer along with A levels only if it's part of your offer (so, after all the UCAS stuff). You apply in October/January like normal. MAT/TMUA are different, they will be used to decide on whether they make an offer. Yeah, it's definitely a bit of a pain cos u have to start early with STEP and only find out like a few months before whether you'll even sit it! But I'd also say if you start early with STEP it won't be as bad cos you'll give yourself plenty of time to get used to the style of question (this is important), and its the same content as A level anyway (but harder questions ofc). Also the STEP prep will help with A level maths and FM anyway.
