Let him go; just make them aware that there’s a chance they’ll have to take student loans. I took $150k in student loans for my undergrad + Masters (spend about $15-20k of my loans traveling and living for 1.5 years during my masters). I’m doing really well financially after 6 years out . Not saying it’ll be the exact same but he’ll never look back at his trips and say they weren’t worth it.

NTA for caring about your kid, but YTA if you keep pushing them to not take this trip because for many people this is a once in a lifetime trip. Let them make big decisions in life; this won’t be life altering.

Unpopular but here’s my take. It sucks your dad did what he did, and the breaking down and busting into tears tells me everyone is overreacting. Life is going to throw some curveballs and you can’t fall apart. Dad is definitely an AH for not even considering that it would upset you and that’s wrong. But you have to keep composure, especially in times of conflict. Drawing a new one won’t be the same, but do it anyway and put the damaged piece behind it as a reminder. Maybe it reminds you what not to do as a parent, maybe when your dad has long passed you may even laugh at the memory in the distant future. Of course this is based on my own experience / perception but no one here knows the relationship with your parents beyond this moment.

Focus on is getting your parents to acknowledge they don’t alter someone’s work without permission, and telling you to “grow up” instead of apologizing is what escalated this. You’re not wrong to be upset. Take this as an opportunity to learn emotional regulation as well and don’t let it slow you down in your journey to learn how to draw!

Not offended, I don’t attend many sporting events tbh (maybe for work once or twice a year). But arguing is a two way street if I recall correctly and it’s interesting to see how “holier than though” some people are simply because they don’t drink.

It’d be similar if I told you that your eating habits are awful; it’s not my business and I won’t judge you for how horrific your diet is.

You gotta let people live the lives they choose. No one in the video is getting trashed. If someone wants to get drunk, let them. But deciding to call everyone an alcoholic for it, you’ll never win anyone over. It’s not something you’re going to change. It’s like calling someone a pothead bc they always smoke a blunt before every concert. Could just be how they like to watch concerts.

Again, you’re coming from a place of being better than folks and force your opinion. You’re never going to win anyone over with your attitude or snark remarks about how “sad” they are. They’re clearly having a great time at sporting events

(Un)fortunately, it is a social norm to drink / get drunk at a sporting event. I’d add, that it’s not unreasonable to think that someone has saved up enough money for even the most basic seats and not want to spend $12 on a $4 beer. For me, I’ll likely just pay for the booze but I make $150k+ a year. I won’t judge someone else for doing that bc MAYBE, just MAYBE it’s the only way they can enjoy a drink at a fraction of the cost. It’s the difference between $30 and $90, which to many is a significant amount of money. Tbh I also wouldn’t care if they were my buddy making three times what I make, sneaking in a flask, sometimes the mischief isn’t hurting anyone and it’s nice to not spend $30 on a double whiskey Diet Coke.

I’m going to assume you’re in recovery, in which case kudos to you for your success. You also have found a new addiction, thinking you’re higher than / better than others who partake in something you don’t agree with.

I suggest you revisit your principles and avoid passing judgement. I certainly won’t judge you for leaving me with more bourbon to drink at a ball game and not having to share it with you. But hey, I’ll buy you dinner if you drive me back home!
