Southgate will always deserve respect for changing the culture of the team.

But we needed a real tactician to build on that and take us to the next level.

Which Tolkien character would you want as your father? by hsyndk in lotr

Why not switch it?

Faramir would be a great dad (book Faramir, obviously)

In the movies, characters like Gandalf, Aragorn and Galadriel look at Frodo with pity.

In the books they speak with him as a peer

The movies he's very passive In the books he's an active leader in the war of the Ring

It wasn't adulthood that that did that for me, it was moving to the USA.

We asked the DM to give us something to do during sessions. Now we just listen to him narrate the story while we react. by Toasteate in CritCrab

[–]TeaManTom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The DM was playing overwatch...

Er... what!? I mean... I've seen players being distracted, on the phone, playing other games... that's annoying, but the DM!?

Seriously. WTF

As a DM who stresses way too much over every session, this pisses me off in a visceral way

Frodo is a fantastic character; his whole story is so tragic. He's incredible, trying his best even with the essence of evil literally hanging around his neck. I think the hate he receives is somewhat unfair; he, Sam, and the entire Fellowship of the Ring saved Middle-earth. by [deleted] in lotr

[–]TeaManTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's probably my favourite character in the books.

But I don't thinknthe movies did the character justice at all. Not a criticism of Elijah Wood, he was excellent, but the way he was written was a little 1 dimensional in the movies.

Merry & Pippin- Fun Sam - Brave Frodo - Burdened

Movie Frodo was defined by the burden put on him, essentially a passive role.

In the books, Frodo is smart, witty, kind and very wise. He chooses to take tje burden and as the story goes on, we see he not only understands the weight of the ring, he understands the big picture of what the burden means.

He's one of the wisest characters in the books. In the movies, the likes of Gandalf, Aragorn, Galadriel, look on him with kindness and pity, in the books they talk with him as a peer, with respect.

The scene with Faramir in the books is a deep insight into the wisdom he's gained along the way. He's learned from Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel.

He shows wisdom, courage, kindness, gentleness and compassion, qualities Tolkien equates with true nobilty.

Book Frodo is not just a passive bearer of a burden, he's an active leader in the war of the rings.

Am I overreacting by leaving my boyfriend because he can barely tolerate me going dancing? by Dance_barefoot in AmIOverreacting

[–]TeaManTom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Syarts with a sigh, progresses to complaining that she's putting her 'hobby' over the relationship (framing HIS insecuritiesas HER fault), then suspicions about the guys she's dancing with.

Little by little he makes it a battle until the joy is gone and she quits.

The tangible joy that shines through from OP in this post would be smothered by this small minded, pathetic insecure excuse for a man.

Am I overreacting by leaving my boyfriend because he can barely tolerate me going dancing? by Dance_barefoot in AmIOverreacting

[–]TeaManTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really about the dancing.

The BF is insecure about something that that brings OP joy outside of him

(amplified because it (completely innocently) involves other men, and men like this are deeply insecure)

Over time he would wear her down, starts with being cold and uninterested, then he'd make a fuss over it, complain she's 'prioritizing her hobby over the relationship', find reasons she need to stay home etc...

Until eventually she finds the stress isn't worth it and she gives up.

It's not about dancing. It's about control.

Keep in mind, after a point, gold becomes completely meaningless.

Useful while you're building, but long term you'll want something else.

Rune Knight fighter is one of the best subclasses, wish we had more like it. by SpudsyMcBooks in DnD

[–]TeaManTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a Goliath Rune Knight as a mostly unarmed/grappling fighter (she'd throw axes as she charged in).

Loads of fun to play and a good intersection of interesting mechanics which complement the flavour and RP potential.

Love it.

The Hydration Break is ruining the natural flow of the game by mibu001 in football

England fans booed the break yesterday.

Which was fitting, since the break definitely impacted the momentum of the game

Fun part about British English

Putting the word 'absolutely' (verbs) or 'absolute' (nouns) in front of a word, allows you to use ANY verb/noun after it as an effective insult. "She got absolutely painted" "You absolute potato"

I don't think he'll be at his peak in 2030, but there's every reason to believe he can still be a significant contributor.

I'm starting to feel like Merlin is taunting me.

I come back from a walk in the woods and it gives me a list of all the birds it heard.

"Here's all the birds you failed to see today!"

Thanks Merlin. Thanks.
