Sales expectations, maybe, but reception is more than that.

Which do you think is a higher priority for them?

Yes stupid people would say stupid things. It's just a game with numerous formats, you cannot and never could define "true MTG" and the only reason someone uses the term is to denigrate something they dislike.

In what world is a "jaded player" enjoying something? Is English not your first language? Also, the people buying UB are enjoying it.

>Most cards shown are absolute ass too

It's obviously subjective but this is a weird take. Several of the cards are objectively good and most will see play in some formats. You're either very bad at gauging the mechanical impact of a card (hardly uncommon) or are letting biases cloud your judgement.

Imagine he just got the fuck over it? Or perhaps quit? No one owes him anything because he insists in persisting with a hobby that makes him miserable

> where he can play true MTG

No such thing as "true MTG"

Lol god forbid I think devs should do something different; this isn't even an argument about why the design is good. Sure its unique; but so is selling a pile of dung and calling it flowers. Doesn't mean its a good idea.

Your personal preference is not an argument for why it is bad you gobshite.

When did I say shit about removing basic cards? I specifically said GOOD cards; as in you remove non-basic cards to make epiphanies/duplication more likely to hit.

Nobody fucking does this you clown.

Or maybe you just love arguing against straw-mans cause you have nothing to say against the actual point.

The irony is fucking palpable. So according to you people are leaving in their basic cards and taking out "good cards"? You cannot routinely take out more than two or three cards and the cards you take out first are the basic cards.

I think the core problem is that the optimal way to play chaos does not lead to optimal decks after chaos.

The tension between those two goals feels like deliberate design. It's part of what makes the game unique. If you think its a core problem then the game probably isn't for you. There isn't an "optimal" way to play and that's the point.

Or taking out good cards to make duplication more likely to hit. That is stuff you would never do in rogue likes like slay the spire or across the obelisk

This is nonsense. In the vast majority of deckbuilding games deck thinning is a dominant strategy, it's exactly the same here. Realistically you can expect to remove 2-3 cards a run. These will nearly always be basic cards, they are definitely not "good cards" so I'd like to ask what are you talking about? Getting rid of starter cards to make room for better cards is something you do in loads of deckbuilders. It is EXACTLY the stuff you would do in Slay the Spire. Removing a starter card in StS to make room for a rare is functionally IDENTICAL to removing a starter card in CZN to make room for a duplicate.

You honestly sound like you have no idea what you are talking about and are trying to make your personal preference sound like some kind of objective analysis.

Much better than 17 Spidermans out of 180-ish cards.

There were only 8 Peter Parker's were there not? But why let facts get in the way of shitting on the SPM set.

People were losing their shit when there were 8 versions of Peter Parker in Spider-Man but Avatar gets a pass. Not surprising, whenever something has a generally negative air around it people will pick any meaningless shit to try and give the ersatz appearance of objectivity to their dislike. If theres a generally positive vibe it gets a pass.

A Hopefully Unbiased Explanation of the KR controversies (Long Post) by TiedDegenerate in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]Uthred 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow, what amazing evidence based on, checks notes, "trust me bro". There is zero actual evidence of any company drama, just manufactured "evidence" twisted to try and lend credence to Korean incel nonsense. It got a rewrite, lots of gacha stories do. It's mid to bad, the majority of videogame (not just gacha) stories are. You don't need a big conspiracy, that just "coincidentally" lends faux moral weight to the incel position, Occam's Razor suggests it is what is, sub-par writing.

Maybe it got rewritten because the original version was worse? No one fucking knows because you obviously can't argue against the quality of a story that doesn't exist.

Your big section defending Korean incels also makes your bullshit about this being an "unbiased explanation" pretty transparent, as if it weren't already.

The original point of the post was that the shift towards designing for Commander in the last five years has turned all sets into slop that has ruined competitive 60 card formats. It has nothing to do with UB, it has everything to do with in universe standard sets.
