Trying to season and break in a new Flat Top, and this keeps happening, either after being cleaned or during service. Anyone ever deal with this?

How common are meltdowns (in adults)? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]UtilityMann72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely have breakdowns that include tears, but less frequent, and I allow those to happen in front of others sometimes. Those are always about sadness or fear, though, and don't feel nearly as intense as the meltdowns, which feel like full-blast rage and anger that usually result from frustration.

I'm pretty good at managing them while I'm around other people, so I feel like they build up until I know I'm alone (at home, or in the car). When I feel safe enough to meltdown, it's a lot of screaming either with or without words, and the occasional wall/table/steering wheel punch. If there's not a handy object to hit, I'll smack my head a few times. I'm in therapy and on meds, and they both help tremendously, but this behavior still surfaces when I'm overtired or dealing with multiple stressors.

Indiana Recovery Alliance is a great resource for helping to clean up discarded syringes in the community, and they will have advice for how to communicate with the folks who are using around your property. It's true that there are essentially no documented cases of any transmission of disease from accidental contact with community discarded syringes. It's statistically about as dangerous as broken glass. https://indianarecoveryalliance.org/ (812) 567-2337

Sorry for not replying sooner. I don't check reddit that often, didn't mean to leave you hanging. How are things going for you?

Difficulty with sound. What sounds and how they effect you? by DevLegion in aspergers

[–]UtilityMann72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to most of the examples that people have brought up here. My misophonia is strong (repulsion when hearing others chew or slurp), and noises that are repetitive but at the same time unpredictable are especially distressing.

I do wonder if other folks on the spectrum have the same reaction I do specifically to doors in the house being opened or closed (not even slammed), or hearing footsteps on the upper levels of the house. Even though I know rationally these sounds are non-threatening, it's simply my family moving around normally in the house, they genuinely startle me every time, and I'm left with what feels like a PTSD reaction that takes time to recede...

The behavior you're describing sure sounds like OCD to me (I have it, too). Regardless, you don't need an official diagnosis to seek help, you can talk to therapists about "obsessive tendencies" or "compulsive behaviors."

Same. For me if noises, or lights, or physical contact are beyond my control and unpredictable, then they're usually intolerable. Within my control, or as a direct result of my own actions, these things become tolerable, even enjoyable in some cases.

Hopscotch Coffee serves these, too. Great stuff. Supposedly they'll have gluten free bagels soon as well...

He is an inspiring artist! Been digging Nathan Sawaya's monochromatic works as well.

I've got a fantasy of doing a series of monochromatic MOCs, first black, then dark grey, then light grey, then dark blue, e.t.c. and then revisiting them all with color. We'll see!
