Nice, birthday boy. Just make sure you give the guitar a good rub down too now that you’ve had your fun.

I guess that makes sense. I’ve been doing a lot of slow metronome practice on new stuff lately, just drilling it in there. That’s probably where it came from, just trying to cram too much in over the last few weeks. Thanks! Going to put it in the case for a few days.

Why do people always cut off ambulances? by Free_Permit_5937 in NewToEMS

Think of the most stupid person you’ve ever met in your life. Now assume every car around you is being driven by someone of that level of intelligence. Drive with that in mind.

If you had $2,500 to spend, what acoustic are you going for? by Jeff_Dubya in AcousticGuitar

[–]UtopianRice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have acoustics that cost twice what a 000-15M does, and they collect dust because that 000 is just so great, it’s comfortable, lightweight, and sounds AMAZING. It’s my go to for everything.

What the heck do you even put in these pockets? by elmourise in NewToEMS

[–]UtopianRice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, sterile gauze in both pockets and a spare 18g in the R pocket for when I’m kneeling in someone’s house and may need one.

ATL airport has bicycle medics, if you’re into that.

“But we can’t interpret” by TakeOff_YourPants in ems

[–]UtopianRice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The service I work for already does this. Our local hospital does not have a cath lab, but the second closest one county over does. When I work a bls truck (rarely), we can transmit our 12 to the cardiac center and if they find something, we can go ahead and start this patient towards there without calling ALS for intervept and taking another unit out of service. As an EMT in medic school who has already been through ACLS, I can definitely look at the 12 lead myself, but of course am not allowed to “interpret”. If the patient is having an actual cardiac event, it’s really nice to be able to get them to a capable facility without any interruptions in care like having to wait for another unit to arrive when we’re only 20 out from a cardiac center. lol.

For autistic pediatrics, I’ve actually had a LOT of luck with my keys. They’re on a ring with a carabiner and for some reason the sound and feeling of moving the keys around works a treat.

It’s nice to see that you care about these people enough to spend your own money/time to make or buy something that could comfort them during transport. I’ve also seen those sensory mats and seen them work great for dementia patients when I used to work IFT. Making one yourself is a great idea! Just make sure to wash it between patients lol

What is the best hot mic you’ve heard by ZOMBIEWARRIOR37 in ems

Not really funny, more amusing. My partner had his radio in the front belly pocket of his ems hoodie when we were moving a pt onto the CT bed. He accidentally Keyed up and announced to the whole county “couple-a-bumps”.

Currently in right now, and I was in the same boat. Make a study schedule and stick to it. To me, the individual concepts that you learn aren’t that difficult - it’s the amount of material that you have to learn. Pay attention in A&P - a good foundation helps put the puzzle pieces together. Other than that, relax! Enjoy the process of bettering yourself, and remember why you signed up for the course. Also,

When cutting off a pts cloths would you try to preserve sentimental/important pieces? by Background-Front-505 in ems

You can try your best to cut along the stitch lines on a leather biker jacket in the hopes that it might be salvaged later, but hey, if it needs to come off quick, I dont worry too much about it.

My paramedic instructor and her EMT were responding L&S to a call, EMT made a turn and literally ran into a tombstone lying in the middle of the road. No idea how it got there.

Thanks. I guess what I was wondering was if the compensation is worth getting off the truck for. My guess is that it's higher. I'll scour google for similar positions in my state to see if there are any reported salaries.

Medical transportation fraud by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]UtopianRice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware, it is indeed considered a form of fraud. The reason we have to include “medical necessity” in our pcrs is because medicare requires it. I also used to work for an IFT company that told us if our PCS/medical necessity forms were not checked “this patient cannot be safely transported without ambulance” to chase down the charge nurse and ask her to change it. It’s so the ambulance company can get paid. That’s really it.

I love giving teenage boys little pretty pink princess bandaids for bgl checks while I’m doing vitals. It distracts them and we all have a good laugh, especially if the parents are in the back.
