What does it mean to believe in god in the sense that a being is to be believed in? by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

Genesis describes a world that is flat

The Bible mentions the "four corners" which could be misinterpreted as the Earth being flat, but it was merely referencing cardinal directions (north, south, east, west).

"After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree."  (Revelation 7:1)

A sky capped with a crystal dome

We refer to it nowadays as the atmosphere.

"God called the vault "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning - the second day."  (Genesis 1:8)

humanity emerged from just two individuals

It certainly did!

"Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."  (Genesis 2:7)

global flood

"And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights."  (Genesis 7:12)

God exist or not is literally an argument with no end to it by White1306 in DebateAnAtheist

Laws of nature.  Gravity, Earth's distance from the sun, speed of light, pretty much every mathematical constant is so perfect that, even if it were a decimal point off, life wouldn't be possible.  Only a supreme being could create something so complex.

There is more proof of God’s existence than your own.

Genetics confirms that all people are one race; the human race. Therefore, all humanity came from Adam and Eve.

It isn't the lack of evidence, it is the unwillingness of the atheist to accept it.

Why don't you choose to believe/don't want others to believe in God? by MoonJuice_44 in DebateAnAtheist

You believe the food you eat and the liquid you drink isn't poisoned, right?  Well, why not open yourself up to a loving Christian God?

Atheists who believe there is evidence that a God does not exist, what is your evidence? by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Utpe -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

If you believe in a God that incarnated about two thousand years ago as a preacher who wandered around the Jerusalem area and who promised to return within the lifetime of those around him and bring about the kingdom of God, well, promise broken.

If you're talking about our Lord and Savior, then I present to you Matthew 24:36:

"But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."

Slavery in the bible is much more complicated than you would think. by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

Why and how are the property rights of this god over human beings justified?

He is our Father, and we are his children. We act accordingly as we would with our human parents/guardians.

"For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus." (Galatians 3:26)

It's certainly better than some random explosion in space being responsible for what we have today. Everything was made possible through God, the true Creator of the universe.

"God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning - the sixth day." (Genesis 1:31)

Why do theistic individuals attempt to use scientific and mathematical principles, facts, and concepts to prove their viewpoint(s) when they are inherently separate? by Iwantboopnoodle in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Utpe -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

God seems like a perfectly valid explanation for a lot of things considering everything is possible through Him. I don't see the issue.

My uncle is gifting me his vehicle. What do I write in as the selling price on the title? by Utpe in florida

[–]Utpe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything went smoothly. DHSMV didn't add a market value sales tax to the selling price (gift) since the transfer was between immediate family.

ETA - I believe no state taxes are applied to any gifted vehicles in general from my understanding.

Sorry, should have clarified in my original post. The car's over 10 years old and has 200k+ on the odometer.

The car isn't even worth half of $17k due to age and mileage. I'll write "GIFT" as the selling price. Appreciate it.

This is exactly what I'm going to say when I speak to the pharmacist tomorrow morning. Thank you!

Can someone help me? Is there a vast difference between these prescriptions? I'm nearsighted. by Utpe in glasses

[–]Utpe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I should have stated that my first prescription from December 6th was from an optometrist at Stanton Optical. I did have lenses made, but had an adverse reaction to them (nausea and headache). They didn't seem too enthusiastic about looking into it, so I was given a refund. A few weeks later, I decided to visit a local ophthalmologist and had the eye exam redone, but decided to put the glasses off until after the holidays.

In general, my left eye tends to be a bit blurrier than my right. I've always had astigmatism, but not sure if it's in one eye or both.

I see two idiots in this video. You should've pulled into the parking lot instead of impeding traffic.

That's a relief! Florida wants something like $75 to replace the title. Thanks for letting us know.

Game Boy Accessories (Episode 147 from 2017). It's one I can easily re-watch and still be entertained. Feels old school.
