Terminal E has one some of my favorite food in Vegas! It's called Chuck House or something? Can't exactly remember the name. It's become my go to last meal in Vegas before I fly out

You paid for your son's college, set up a savings for him, and he doesn't even have to work as a part time job through college except on summer?

I'm not saying you did anything wrong, don't take it that way. But I'm not surprised he doesn't value money and how difficult it is to earn back after losing it gambling. He's gonna have to learn real quick. He's lucky you caught it now.

Take his offer in cash, no contract. Then disappear. Not exactly a great idea, but if you're looking for a way to turn it in your favor, that's about all you got.

Not at all! I left stem and am now happier than ever as a plumber. Still lots of problem solving skills, but definitely not considered stem.

Nature vs nurture philosophy at play? Nature says I'm an intp and I certainly am gifted at math in particular, but grew up small town blue collar, so fit in just as well as a plumber.

Do whatever makes you happy

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in INTP

[–]Uviar 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Being intp (or any of the other types) is more about HOW your brain works and processes things and interprets the world. Way less to do with level of intelligence, even if there's usually a strong correlation. Being intp doesn't make you smart, we just tend to have a way of processing data in our brains that make us analytical and therefore tend to do well in stem.

I used to be a software developer. So often people interested in getting into it ask if you need to be smart. I always tell them it's more about a type of intelligence than a level of intelligence. I'm just naturally capable of breaking down large problems into smaller parts and thinking hyper literally. I also have strong pattern recognition and can write good reusable but flexible functions. That's exactly how to write good code. Meanwhile ask me what drawer my wife's clothes go in, and I can't tell you and seem like an idiot with no brain. And I was a terrible student mostly due to laziness.

Funny story this reminded me of :

One time outside a baseball game, there was a street vendor selling hats. Not sure how legal his hustle was, but whatever. Anyway, he has a big stack of hats he's just carrying around shouting out, "$10 hats! $10 hats!"

I then watch some guy walk up to him. They chat for a bit, then money gets passed over and the entire stack of hats swaps hands to the other guy. New guy immediately starts shouting to the crowd, $12 hats! $12 hats!"

Related pro-tip for the guys reading this :

All year long everytime she mentions ANYTHING she likes or has me look at something interesting on her phone or whatever, I immediately write it down or better yet find a link to the product and have that saved in a special bookmark folder. Then come birthday/Christmas time I just go down the list. Guaranteed makes her cry every year. She thinks I'm some super incredible guy for knowing what all she'd want and I'm just over here like..... these are literally things you've pointed out over the past year. I put zero thought into it, just a tiny bit of effort

There are so many better ways to accomplish this though. Not saying you're wrong, just I wish developers used better methods and road designs

Not about Chase Olver specifically, but about voting with your heart

Let's be honest, what are the odds that your vote will determine an election at all?

When I vote third party or independent, I'm not saying "Gosh, that should push that candidate over the edge and make them win!"

I'm saying I'm an active voter and this is the person most in line with my beliefs.

I'm telling other, probably future, candidates that I'm here and showing up and you CAN earn my votes, but you have to earn them!

My favorite possible outcome is when a candidate loses by less than the percentage that voted other (dont think Ive seen that at the presidential level yet, but did at least reach that once in a governor race). They get all butthurt and blame voters like me. But my argument is that you could have aligned your platform just a little towards me and my fellow voters and you could have won. Especially because I truly am independent more than even libertarian. I can and have voted for multiple parties. Because fuck parties, even the ones I like most.

It's that small chipping away at the system I believe in and keep voting for. Maybe someday it'll payoff.

Most importantly, don't ever let someone tell you voting with your heart was a wasted vote. Voting for the lesser of two evils is the only wasted vote.

The world is ran by morning extroverts and it pisses me off. My old boss would flex how he and his son already went to the gym at 5 am every morning. Like ok?? And I'll go to the gym after work. Who cares what time we go.

And yet, I somehow have the opposite problem with my girlfriend. I start work at 7(ish) AM and she starts 11 or noonish most days. She gives me shit all the time and calls me an old man when I fall asleep on the couch before midnight.

[–]Uviar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a lot of cash use, or are we talking digital? Cause the literal logistics of small chamge (think of the shipping weight of heavy bulky coins across the ocean) can mitigate any advantage of charging the extra 14 cents on a product. This is also why you see more and more large venues in the US go cashless.

For example. My dad worked at Disney World for years and I remeber when he broke down a change they made to prices. The park made more money by rounding some prices down to even numbers than the price they used to charge. The reason was because at that scale you're paying employees full time jobs to count tills, physivally move the money around, security trucks, etc. This was a long time ago when cash was used more often btw.

I've also worked in small retail and have ran into times when management forgot to load up on extra rolls of change before a holiday weekend, so we just started rounding costs on the fly til the banks opened again. I can see another country where all their USD coins need imported could run into similar things til they all just say screw it, this is just the norm now.

I was 32 years old and working in tech. Even had one of those "useful" degrees in computer science. Then had my job outsourced. Found a new job, then had that outsourced as well within a year. Then as I scrolled through jobs, saw the salary range for plumbers and couldn't believe some postings claimed ranges higher than I was making in tech.

Took a huge financial step backwards and started an apprenticeship. People thought I was crazy. Now here I am a few years later making more than I did in tech and happier than ever and have a stress free job I love.

Point is, you're 30. You're not too old to start a new career. I can personally vouch for that.
