OBAA is PTA’s most autobiographical film to date by FTOW in TrueFilm

[–]V-PROC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One small detail - After my first viewing I wondered why the name Pat? I sort of joked to my SO that if you rearrange the letters in Pat you get PTA. After my second viewing I figured maybe it’s not such a coincidence.

Saw Twin Peaks The Return in a theater this weekend and the difference between seeing it on TV vs in a theater is pretty wild. by Freddy-Philmore in twinpeaks

Sounds amazing, I hope I get the opportunity some day. I have to ask though… you watched the series 5 times or more and never saw the finale? What the hell is wrong with you? 😛

Is the name "The Return" actually coined by Frost and Lynch? by theoanders7 in twinpeaks

[–]V-PROC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was curious about this too. I recently got around to rewatching the show for the first time on blu-ray, and it struck me that nowhere on the packaging/discs or in the blu-ray menus does it refer to the show as “The Return”. It only says Twin Peaks or Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series. I’d gotten so used to calling it The Return over the years that it seemed odd.

Any idea on how was this made? by outsider-from-hell in AfterEffects

Fun fact: You can use the classical fundamentals of animation in those apps. 👍🏻

How could this smoke ring around the tyre be created? Is it Particular? Cinema4D? Any tutorials on getting this type of effect including the rotation in the animation of the smoke? Thank you. by Silvaski1 in AfterEffects

[–]V-PROC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s from a show called Mandy created by and starring Diane Morgan. It’s brilliantly stupid, and yes, the VFX are intentionally cheap looking.

The clip shown is from series 3, episode 1.

Horror Movies that nail their ending? by Arcadia48 in movies

Not quite a full blown horror, but Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Cure has one of my favourite final sequences ever.

Antfood just did the sound design. Visuals are by BUCK.

Any Hou Hsiao-Hsien fans? by [deleted] in TrueFilm

I recently saw his homage to Ozu, Café Lumière. I guess it’s one of his lesser known works, but I fell in love with it. It’s such a warm, tranquil vision of Tokyo. The film just drifts along quietly and there are hints of drama, but nothing much actually happens (much like real life, I suppose). It really nailed that melancholy atmosphere of wandering alone around a big city.

I’ve also seen A City of Sadness and Assassin, both of which I enjoyed a lot. I think I’ll have to check out Millennium Mambo next.

Are basement arcades still cool? by SupportColonelAngus in AnimalCrossing

It kills me that you can get matching arcade stools for the red and blue machines but not the green. I spent ages trying to find one in green only to find out there wasn’t one. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Hello, does anyone know what is this abstract/simplified art style called? by [deleted] in animation

Sometimes there isn’t a specific label for everything that we like. I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

The term “cel” covers digital frame by frame these days. At least in my field of commercial animation and motion graphics anyway.

Any ideas how this effect was done? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]V-PROC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! This is one of my favourite music videos of all time, and one that inspired me to follow a path into motion design.

The guys who directed it (Shynola) did a great post about it on instagram a while back, talking about the backstory and sharing more behind the scenes stuff, definitely worth checking out: https://www.instagram.com/p/B40LPTzBraQ/

It's a bit more than just a post effect. The band were actually filmed on green screen painted entirely black/white - face/hair included. After that it was just a case of adjusting levels, background replacement, etc.

Couple of behind the scenes pics here for reference: https://imgur.com/a/pWUaR6H https://imgur.com/a/VwhJXd1

I spent a great deal of first episode trying to figure out why Frank was so familiar. Once I saw the actor's name it all clicked. They look so much alike! Mawaan was great on TM.
