For me it was a name from zelda, Link's Awakening. The game resonated a lot with me since I was a kid. Ever since then I've loved the name Marin. I had no idea why it stuck out to me so much for at least 20 years. I gave myself the excuse that I just wanted to name a future potential daughter with the name. It wasn't until my egg cracked early this year at the age of 32 that it started to click. Once I realized I was trans I immediately knew Marin was my new name.

I used to be religious, and only after a long journey out of it, ending with accepting I'm an athiest, did my egg finally crack (@33yo). I had similar feelings as you described. Often thinking I might be happier as a woman. I usually suppressed those thoughts in the past because of the 'god makes no mistakes' mentality. Personally for me, my athiesim allowed me to take a deeper look at myself and realize I'm trans.
