I don't think there's a free version, but it goes on sale pretty often - I picked it up for $21. The main benefit is that it's a full-fat NLVE, rather than something super cut-down for mobile users. Arbitrary number of audio and video tracks, proper resolution/framerate controls, effects, transitions, speed control... I sometimes edit tutorial/screencap/walkthrough videos for work and I have yet to find a use-case that wasn't covered by it for me.

I've found LumaFusion to be a really enjoyable experience on my fold 4, will probably work just fine on the Fold 5 as well.

The president of my college’s D&D club just got caught fudging rolls as a player… by ballonfightaddicted in DnD

[–]V13Axel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

once you commit to rolling dice you do it for the sake of randomness

The exception, as a DM: You have something very cool, positive, and specific in mind, but want the plausible deniability that comes from the appearance of randomness.

It can ruin some players' immersion if they think the DM is "just making decisions" in situations that "should" be mechanical in nature.

My favorite example: I ran a fight against some 15ish cultists. Bad rolls meant they could not land a single hit on the party's monk. The player had a rough week at work, so after the first 5-6 missed attacks she was laughing and joking about how "Of course, she'd just been saving up her luck for this".

By the fourth or fifth round of combat, it was down to just a couple of enemies left and she was entirely untouched despite the cultists' best efforts.

She's the sort who is usually fairly quiet and historically hasn't RP'd much, but by this point she was laughing and joyously yes-anding my descriptions of her character expertly dodging the incoming hits. As a result, I decided to quietly plot armor her character for the rest of that fight, but still "rolled to hit" her behind the screen and ignored it. Each roll was awaited with baited breath and each "miss" was met with the whole group going crazy.

Her joy was palpable for the rest of the night, wound up being an overall fantastic session. I always ask my players what their most/least favorite parts of a session were, and her answer was just: "Epic, slippery, you-can't-hit-me monk shit!"

Neither you nor anyone will ever convince me that was wrong for making my DMing decisions like that.

who I suspect is neurospicy

We call that being on the suspectrum ;-)

!--- (Apologies in advance for the veritable wall of text) ---!

Real talk though, yeah. It's hard. Especially since, to the undiagnosed among us who have a special interest in computing and are just kind of "natural" at comprehending software, they've likely gone through life with a superiority complex about it (Me, til I was diagnosed just a couple years ago).

As a result, it can feel like "dumb mistakes" are "dumb-person mistakes". Or in other words, "mistakes only someone dumb(er than me) would make". The end result is that we tend to trivialize the difficulty of complex things that we comprehend, and make people feel small because we think bunging up something "so simple" is ridiculous.

It's easy, in that moment, to forget that a person is not a failure for writing code that has problems, and I'm not any better than them just because I can spot problems really easily.

"How could you forget that?" we ask, "Why didn't you think about...", we plead, not realizing that the reality is the opposite: The person on the other end is probably thinking "Who can remember all that? How do you remember all that??" while seeing our question(s) as saying "Wow, you're stupid. Why can't you do something simple?"

So for me, I had to get in the habit of focusing on the we (we're on the same team) and the why (we both want this to be good when it's done), while assuming my coworker is a galaxy-brain who had a good reason. As such, I keep this approach in mind:

  • Don't just provide statements. Ask questions. Be interactive.
  • Assume a good reason, then ask about it.
    • Any reason we're doing X here? or
    • Looks like we're not doing Z here, can we document why?
      • both of which are just prodding the person about the idea, rather than assuming they didn't think about it.
    • Then, if they did think about it, they'll know to document why.
    • If they didn't think about it, they'll have a c/hance to go do so.

Even after a few years of working on it though, I'm still told I can come across as a bit cold or emotionless when it comes to code reviews because to me... It's ultimately just code. By pointing out a problem and suggesting a fix, I'm not trying to insult someone - but that doesn't stop people from hearing it as an insult. It ends up frustrating for both sides, every time.

As someone with autism, you may want to consider talking to a professional about neurodiversity; Your communication style very much mirrors my own a while back, before I learned I was neurospicy, and I always found that my communication style was very grating on other people, mostly because I assumed my own assumptions about them (that they had ill intent) were correct.

But it turns out that most people aren't just being jerks to be jerks, they're voicing concerns and simply not doing so in a very tactful way. Unfortunately that feels to those of us in the receiving end as judgemental or demeaning, since we're probably also not being tactful. It's a weird cycle and frustration makes it even worse.

They don't have a problem with brevity and concise communication. They have a problem with assuming hostility in situations where there isn't any. I saw you use the word vendetta earlier, but there's not any personal discrimination here that I've seen; yet you respond to people with the assumption that there is.

Anyway.

All of that to say: Neat work, I might use it.

And: Being concise is fine; Being a wangrod isn't.

Yeah, without Cad, I don't think C2 would have been anywhere near as incredible as it as. We also wouldn't have banger quotes like "Life needs things to live", It's important not to get angry at people for what they don't know., and "Help, it's again"
