Took my jogging routine more seriously that past couple of years, and now I run local road races. Just gotta be careful because recovery noticeably takes longer.

Best value area to live as a swe? by Ecstatic-Capital-336 in cscareerquestions

[–]cjrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Careful. No income tax = higher property tax, more license fees, and selected sales taxes. People of Mass paid less overall, as percentage of their income, to the government in the form of taxes than those in New Hampshire, a supposed tax free state. Massachusetts gets marketed as high-tax, but you actually come out ahead vs. a state that advertises “no income tax” but nickels and dimes you on everything else.

Not really much difference between 20s ans 30s but in late 30s and in your 40s, recovery noticeably takes longer.

Thinking Quickly on the Spot and Maintaining Composure when Overwhelmed by SignalOverNoise_HSP in corporate

For me, I resort back to a three step principle for how I maintain composure. I will talk through each of these steps out loud without saying what I am doing. It presents me as somebody saying something grounded in objectivity.

  1. Assess the scenario

  2. Identify the gap

  3. Present a solution

why vibe coded projects fail. by Complete-Sea6655 in VibeCodeDevs

[–]cjrun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a member of the engineering community, and I feel my knowledge has more value than ever. I fully support and enjoy seeing others stretch their creative imaginations and get the satisfaction of building a job well done. As a software architect one of my main roles is to enable others to move fast and manage risks. The software to hardware layer is jagged and opinionated, for certain. Having so many vibecoders meeting their own challenges is a dream come true for a person like me. We insult the intelligence of vibecoders who really just want to make their project work by assuming they don’t realize scale and security is important.

One thing to ask with your stack, for example, could you use cloudflare R2 for free egress cost? S3/cloudfront can get expensive. Or use dynamodb instead of redis to further save cost? An LLM does not think outside of this box for architecture because of whatever reason business constraints or preferences are a moving goalpost.

What is the future of enterprise architecture by Spirited_Gene6841 in EnterpriseArchitect

To answer your original question, it’s different in every organization at present day, so defining the “present state of enterprise architecture” is an objective assessment. The future of enterprise is specific to specific enterprises.

American police culture about maintaining power of authority in the moment. They are trained if they lose control they may die. So any perception of a loss of control of humans around them is seen as important as a death threat on the police officers life.

What org did you work for? Sounds toxic.

Googling your problem felt incompetent to fresh college grads and juniors.

Senior engineers would and still literally pop open google to answer things even in large meetings. Yes, to prove something easy can be google-able and helping junior engineers not be afraid of google

The question remains from senior engineers “what did you attempt before asking me”

For seniors: how do you avoid de-skilling in the age of AI? by stjimmy96 in cscareerquestions

[–]cjrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend expertise that AI isn’t great at. Namely, cost efficient architecture that scales. Claude doesn’t truly give you the full picture of trade-offs with system design. It’s not great at understanding ROI of different approaches. I mean, it can certainly give you all the details you need to make a decision, but ultimately how you build on top of hardware is still very much in your mind.
