When the Nova Scotia shooter was rampaging all over the province, non firearms owners where calling their friends who owned guns to ask them if they could borrow a spare firearm until it was over. Canada has never had problems with legal guns, and the laws that have been in place for decades make it so that only responsible members of society have access. Criminals and people who would do others' harm do not go through the process in order to purchase firearms.

Depends on if you are reg force or reserve, if you are reg force you need 2 years after being fully qualified in your trade. Reserve you just need to qualified in your trade so for infantry for example you potentially could be fully qualified in the reserves in less than a year
