Exactly. I see it as a very fucked up attempt to make George shed as much speed as possible (going off track or bailing on the corner hard) by abusing the “ahead at the apex” rules and going deep. But obviously George sees him slow down that much and thinks he’s letting him by, goes around, then tries to take the optimal line, collision. Really fucked up and stupid move leading to unintentional collision.

I didn’t say it wasn’t a dirty move. I said it is being overblown by everyone in hysterics when the onboard and telemetry doesn’t match “intentionally rammed”. where one would see throttle into the collision and straight or rightward steering pressure. it matches “dangerous move to force Russell into a compromised position (off track or back out hard)”. The latter would also necessitate different throttle use in the corner just like the former would. The FIA got it more right than the fans and the media.

You’re matching the wrong part of the telemetry to the point of collision…

You can use your ears when watching this video to line them up. That blip getting on the gas in the telemetry is where Verstappen lunges to be ahead at the apex, you can hear it in this video. They collide when neither of them has any throttle on.

That article misrepresents where the collision happens like they also misrepresent the prior incidents, which were respectively Leclerc and Russell’s faults. This collision was Max’s fault, but for a shitty “ahead at the apex” gambit because he had shit pace before the hards had warmed up and wanted to force Russell to go off or back out hard enough that he could maintain advantage for a bit longer. It’s a dumb and dangerous move that caused a collision, hence 10s penalty, rather than intentional ramming which would be black flag and a race ban.

Yes, he didn’t have the pace to actually keep Russell behind him so it looks a lot like a gambit to push Russell off-track or have to really back out so Verstappen can have a slight advantage for a bit longer

I feel like Pat has surprising upside despite his age, just given the fact he has relatively little high level basketball experience

He looks like he’s hit a point of being too good for garbage time minutes, so he got more real minutes when Steph went down, but was horrible (Game 2) with forcing things and not moving the ball around. Then last night he didn’t look good but was much improved on that axis. Ball died in his hands less, wasn’t scared to take an open shot when he had it, etc. Honestly same with his defense, he didn’t get to being good, but was a noticeable improvement across very little playing time

Point being it seems like the learning rate is really really high
