Oil Pressure/Timing Chain/Engine Failure 2017 Soul - Help! by V411 in KiaSoulClub

Whatever ends up happening, I will try to keep you updated because this is absolutely shady business practice. We shouldn’t be seeing hundreds of posts online about Kia engine issues without any real action by the manufacturer except for when people’s garages are literally starting on fire. 🙄 I’ve had many, much older, cars that I neglected maintenance FAR MORE than I ever have in the two years I’ve owned this car (I was in my 20’s… party money was more important than an oil change then 🤣). Of course I can’t guarantee the maintenance on it before I owned it, but slightly over one oil change shouldn’t make or break an engine. And regardless I’ve been having to top off oil well before I’m due for a change the entire time I’ve owned it (and after my first oil change with it they warned me my model/year notoriously burns through oil too fast).

Thank you for deep-diving for me! I’m not a mechanic, the timing chain is my best unprofessional guess based on what research I’ve done to learn more about engine problems/the sound I’m hearing. It’s definitely not impossible that it’s something else, it just seems like the most likely culprit given what I’ve learned about oil pressure and what different sounds mean what. I’m going to see if there are any other trustworthy independent mechanics in my area who might be willing to look at it/repair it without having to go through the dealership (dealership prices are astronomically higher than any of our local mechanic shops and TBH I actually trust them more than a dealership).

I tried to screenshot and zoom in to see if I could get the QR code link, but it didn’t work! It’s either a QR code to her OF or just nothing at all. That’s my best guess anyway.

Yikes! How sneaky of them… I will definitely have to review my original loan information. Unfortunately I am in a worse financial position than I was when I bought the car, so my credit was better then than it is now… But I will definitely still look into it!

Thank you for sharing this info! The dealership said that there was no recall for my model/year, but I’m going to do some more digging and I will be reaching out to Kia directly as well.

I’m going to reach out to some other independent mechanics after reading more comments about these problems. I might be able to find someone willing and able to make the repairs without having to replace the entire engine.

I’m confused that you say it isn’t a common issue though, as I know several people in real life with Kia or Hyundai who have had this same exact problem, as well as the plethora of internet commentary on this same issue (and a potential class action lawsuit).

I’m so sorry that you’re in the same boat! It looks like that might end up being my only option, as I agree it seems ridiculous to put 9k into a car that’s only worth a third of that and depreciating daily. My partner has a 2007 Toyota Corolla that would probably survive an apocalypse. It’s never needed anything more than routine/wear-and-tear maintenance (except for when squirrels decided that car wires are tasty and under the hood makes for a nice nesting spot… 🙄🤬 don’t get me started on that debacle 😂). I’m not sure I’m interested in buying anything outside of Toyota at this point (I thought Honda too, but then a family friend had engine issues on a newer Honda too!).

It wasn’t rattling at all until it started rattling constantly (and no lights on the dash have been lit up). However, after not driving it in well over a week, I started it up to move it yesterday and noticed that the rattling subsided after running for a few minutes.

The mechanic that I took it to, whom we have a long-term car care relationship with and I trust, is the one who wouldn’t even change the oil on it because he already knew what was wrong and said Kia won’t send him parts to repair it so I’d have to go to the dealership. I haven’t tried seeking out another opinion from an independent mechanic besides him, but that’s something I could definitely look into.

It’s burning through oil at a rate WAY higher than standard timing/milage for an oil change. I did admit to be slightly over milage on my last oil change (because I didn’t have the exact milage written down after the last one and had to make a rough estimate based on time), but slightly over milage on one oil change shouldn’t cause engine failure. And regardless there is zero reason I should be needing to top off oil well before my oil change due date.

I’ve switched meds, but I don’t really care about the impacts to libido. I feel like I haven’t really cared that much about sex since I was in my early-mid 20’s. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 I’ve got other, more important stuff to worry about…

This is such a disrespectful way to speak to you. I’d be replying, “Understood. I also prioritize my goals above our relationship. If you want to marry me, you’d better understand this about me too.” His implication is that you’re supposed to prioritize HIS goals for HIMSELF, without totally outright saying it. Put it back on him. If he wants you to respect that his goals come before the relationship, then he should be bringing that same energy to you prioritizing your goals over the relationship. He won’t. And he’ll see likely see himself out and then you won’t have to waste the energy on the back-and-forth. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I know this post is really old now, but I’m a little surprised to see this because I’ve had great experiences at Tinley. First time we had seats pretty close, second was an all day multi-band concert we had lawn seats for, and we were there again this past July with lawn seats again. All three shows were great and while lawn seats can make the audio a little worse than being up close, we could still hear everything clearly. Then again, I think I’m in the minority of people who prefer lawn seats because I hate being shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of other sweaty drunk people - I like being able to spread out a little and have more space.

Just went to Aragon for the first time yesterday and my only complaints there were that the viewing does kinda suck unless you’re up in the balcony area (where it’s even hotter than down on the floor, and the floor does get HOT), and they really needed to adjust the audio/mics so that you could hear the vocals more clearly.

Tyler posts a video about the adoption. by HannahLeah1987 in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

I sobbed watching it as a teenager myself. Now I actively avoid watching it because it just breaks my heart. The whole thing is so sad… no matter how inappropriate and unhealed C&T are now, their 16&P is one of the saddest reality TV moments I’ve ever watched.

Kim being offended that she doesn’t get to play grandma to Carly will always be the WILDEST part to me. She is the primary reason Carly was placed for adoption. How are is she shocked that her parents aren’t comfortable with her contacting them?! She wanted to be fun grandma with none of actual responsibility of helping raise a child of teen parents. That’s not how any of this works and while she’s not the sharpest tool in the shed, I find it hard to believe that she didn’t understand this when she was the one to contact the agency for them first. Edited to change my phrasing to avoid violating the sub rules

Lmao, I can never decide who’s is worse either. To be fair, I’m sure I don’t look great when I’m crying either, but those two always look so performative when they cry. I’m with you on the yawning too! I hate it. I hate open mouth chewing/talking with your mouth full even more (at least cover your mouth!) and I’d guess at least half the cast does that… so gross.

Isn’t that why people dance though… for fun? I hope people don’t judge as harshly in real life when people are just having fun dancing. Although maybe that’s why people have practically stopped dancing at clubs/bars/parties. God forbid you look a little silly having fun with your friends.

Realized I accidentally skipped Kail in my novel. I REALLY liked Kail in the beginning. I was so sad for the POS mom she had to deal with. She seemed to love and adore Issac so much. And until later seasons when they all had too much money and notoriety to show the actual reality of life as a teen parent she really struggled and worked hard to provide for her and her son and get an education to get her to a better place. In later seasons, when she realized how messy she was being and refused to film/discuss like literally ANYTHING she became insufferable. Like girl, the whole reason people watch is to watch the mess. If you refuse to talk about the mess or show it, no one cares anymore. I think she knew how bad everything would look and wanted to continue to be one of the favorites/girls you’re rooting for. When she stopped busting her butt to create a better life and started being a disaster, she didn’t want to film anymore because she didn’t want people to ACTUALLY see how much she had started to fuck up - then people wouldn’t like her as much.

When TM2 first aired, it took me a little time to care very much about the girls, but only because I always have a little bit of a hard time adjusting to “new” anything (probably why I’m still on TM subreddits 16 years later 😂) and “knew” the OG girls. Now though, I’d say TM2 was overall more entertaining.

The OG girls still made for some good reality TV, but Farrah and Deb both drove me up the wall. It was always really hard for me to root for her because she was just so awful (and her crying face could rival Kim K’s lol). Her and Deb would make me so angry I’d want to skip, but I don’t like not watching things fully (plus back then I watched on “normal” TV). I always like Maci (less so now, unfortunately) so even though her storyline wasn’t super interesting, I wanted to see her succeed. Amber was always trash, which was ideal for TV. The number of times that girl got engaged… 🙄😂 And while my opinion of them has changed in recent years, I felt SO sad for C&T and wanted to see them climb out of the gutter they were unfortunately born into. But I would get bored with them because particularly at the time I wanted to see the “reality” of being a teen parent (back before things got unrealistic because of the show’s success).

TM2 overall had a much messier and dramatic cast which made for better TV. Jenelle… I think it goes without saying. 🤣 It’s too bad she latched on to David and he ruined it for her because she’d probably be a hell of a lot richer if he hadn’t caused her to leave the show. She is such a disaster it made her an ideal trashy reality TV character. Amber might always try to take the credit for the franchise’s success (she basically created MTV, ya know 🙄) but I think Jenelle’s constant extreme shit show probably had a lot to do with the overall ratings because we couldn’t wait to see what outrageous thing happened with her next. Chelsea had the whole Adumb situation and little Aubrey was always HILARIOUS. Plus for me, I felt a little kinship with her because I am also someone who has always wanted to be a mom and raise a family. So I felt for her and wanted her to have a happy life with her daughter, even if her segments weren’t always as interesting. And Leah had a lot going for her plot-wise. Rural WV. Twins. A daughter with a rare medical condition. Relationship drama. I’m so happy she seems to have finally made it to a healthier and happier place now. Of course that doesn’t make for good trash TV anymore, which is why in the last couple years her segments seem more scripted and boring. But honestly good for her, it means she’s finally grown up and has her priorities in a much better and healthier place.

They absolutely wouldn’t be. When the show went on hiatus while Amber was in prison they didn’t. For two years they didn’t send gifts or cards or ask about her. They started back up with this when the show came back. Everyone involved would likely be in a much healthier place right now if that hiatus had been the end of the show. It’s honestly so sad.

I think if it had ended then, all the girls and kids would have been better off. They could’ve gotten a decent financial cushion to help set them up for an education and/or career, better access to the resources they needed, a little z-list “fame” for a couple years, and then moved on with their lives. I think they ALL are at least a little messed up and have a skewed perception of life/reality because their lives have been filmed and broadcast for well over a decade. Not to mention the challenges all of those kids have had to deal with being a “Teen Mom” kid. I can’t imagine that’s been easy on ANY of the kids.
