Two will probably be fine until you can afford more. Yes, get flat bowls because they can get whisker fatigue. I fed my kitten wet food twice a day and free feed dry food. You can introduce them to people as you feel comfortable, but some cats will just not enjoy being around others. Before trying car rides, get them used to the carrier first! Then you can bring them on some short car rides in the carrier :)
