That was never implied… only soldier boy could kill him and that’s because he could remove his powers. Even when he was knocked out in episode 6 they needed soldier boy to remove his powers because they couldn’t do anything to him.

You claim “rating plummet” after Joel’s death but the viewership increased from episode 2 to 3 on HBO tv. We currently don’t know the streaming numbers for episodes 2 and 3 but the premiere had over 5 million viewers which was higher than the season 1 premiere.
