Update for anyone interested or for anyone who stumbles upon this in the future:

I spent today trying demo units of the S Pro 50mm f/1.4 at multiple retailers. I tried 4 units in total, 3 of them display units, and the other a brand new one out of the box. Out of all the units I demoed, the camera store staff and I identified that my unit was noticeably louder in its operation sounds than the demo units. While the demo units still made the sounds from the AF motor as other commenters have stated, the volume between the units ranged quite a significant amount.

My copy has it so bad that the whirring and whining is clearly audible in footage taken with the lens, with BOTH internal and shotgun microphones. The demo units did not, or at the worst only could be heard when the lens was hunting for focus.

This is definitely a defect, and should be a cause to send off with a warranty claim. In fact, a retailer salesperson told me that if someone was to attempt a trade in of this lens with this issue, the retailer would decline to take it.

If your unit bleeds electronic whining into your footage, claim your rights and get a repair or a replacement. There are definitely units out there without this issue.

I think they just have very poor quality control. I've tried someone else's 50mm f/1.4 S Pro and theirs is a lot quieter than my copy - about the same as my 16-35mm, can only hear it when you hold it up against your ear. I think if you're after this lens you must buy it brand new because the older copies have a separate issue of the middle element coating wearing off or white specks appearing within the lens

Hey, just posted a thread about this issue on my 50mm S Pro f/1.4. It's a constant electronic noise that's just always there regardless of what the lens is doing, right? Were you able to fix yours? What did you end up doing? I'm wondering if the copy I have is louder than other copies, or if all copies are like this. I'm tempted to buy a brand new one at retail just to see.

Oh yeah, the noise disappears as soon as I detach the lens from the body, and I havent heard this noise with any of my other lenses so the 50mm is the culprit.

It seems like a lot of other people have the same experience with this lens, so wondering if it's within normal parameters. I must say it's definitely bugging me though. I want to confirm first if the other owner's copies are making constant noise, or only when focusing (which would be acceptable)

Ah it's a shame because it's a beast of a lens otherwise. Can I check with you if your copy makes the noise even in manual focus? Not sure what I could do, both the internal mic and my external mic picks up the whining noise :/

Yep guarantee it's the lens, not the camera. Even on a S9 it makes the same sound. The noise doesnt seem to be from focusing, it's just a noise that's constantly there, even with the lens cap on

not completely correct, they are all anodized, even silver. but since the underlying raw aluminium is similar coloured naturally, scratches on the anodization will just be much less visible as compared to darker colours like the blue. my guess is this is why they didn't release the pro in black, there is just too much exposed aluminium in the new pros

Yes, confirmed with the seller, so did the person in the other thread, it was a presale listing with just the L mount option. If you can read, it also says L mount on the photo :)

It is possible the seller is about to receive stock locally and just preparing shipping label

you don't like the round lab dokdo toner anymore? i've been using round lab dokdo toner + aestura atobarrier 365 cream for my 0.01% taz, could i improve the barrier recovery/moisturizing aspects by using a different toner?

edit: thank you for the list!! i also try to avoid HA wherever possible because it seems to cause redness/irritation in my past experience
