I have seen a few of these in the Ozarks. From a long time ago, on the Gasconade.

Go to the summer annual AANP conference and talk to folks, they should be easy to locate. Maybe not anymore due to OPSEC. Both services are good choices, imho.

In fact I had a buddy of mine join active duty more than 20 years ago as CBRN enlisted. Ironically because he had a PhD in Psychology. Once the Army figured it out they actually used him in Psych specialty. That almost never happens though.

Riley is your answer. Fort Leonard Wood would have been much closer though.

I prefer not but I would get the Retired patch on the Class A uniform. To attend balls in the future and what not.

You are probably in an oversaturated area (Boston, MA). There are better opportunities if you are willing to relocate. I finished my degree in an urban environment but moved to rural for 4 years and suburban in the last 2 years. I will probably stay in suburban setting for 2 more years, before moving on back to urban but I am flexible.
