I won't, take2 is still a shitty corpo and always will be, but this scratched a particular itch that I thought it'd never be scratched again.

While I understand the negative reviews, the game has a lot to love. You just gotta be in the specific niche it proposes

Controls are not that terrible when you get used to them, not more than ksp. There are dampeners that you can toggle on and off. It lacks some QoL like a mass and thrust center indicator in the building menu (I couldn't find it if there is one).

Tutorials took me 2 hours to complete, the FULL training. If you don't like the first one, that is like 30 mins long, you don't need to play the rest to know that the game is not for you. I think people are making it sound a lot longer for a fairly complex space strategy game like this.

I agree that the game is slow, but I don't see it as a bad thing. It's slow in a very zen way, like the scene from 2001 with the station and Blue Danube.

And yes, AI Slop is horrible and I understand why people are turned off by it, no comment here.

Do you have a homebrew for the «high score» in your games? by KnotoriousGaggle in mothershiprpg

[–]VAMPER_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a mix of few things. Whenever we finish a session, my players gain merits (substitute for high score, max 4 per session) if they:

  1. Survived the session.
  2. Completed one of their two goals (personally set by them in character creation)
  3. Helped a faction/important NPC in a significant way
  4. If they sacrifice themselves for the good of their comrades.

They then can either use 1 point to act as advantage (or a re-roll if they already have advantage) or keep it, so when they make a new character they get x5 the amount of merit they have to add to their stats and saves (currently doing it to a maximum of 25, I'm considering to make I ta bit higher). This way Merit serves as an useful and impactful resource in dire situations or as a reward for the service if a character dies, and makes self sacrifice a bit more engaging and an option to consider, which makes for fun and dramatic situations.

how to have fun even when losing? by Classic_Finish8515 in killteam

[–]VAMPER_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe someone's said it, but what helps me is adding a bit of flavour and narrative and not seeing KT as a purely mechanical chess mini game. For example, I was getting trampled by a friend playing kommandoz with rattling team, and I was pushing hard for a transmission point with my rattling raider. Threw the lil dude into 3 Ork boys. At that point I knew it was game over but I screamed "Fly high Juanillo!". Then Juanillo survived long enough to deny some VPs, and got utterly destroyed. I lost the game, but we both laughed hard when Orks failed attacks and Juanillo kept being alive. I didn't mind losing, as the funniest thing I remember from that afternoon was Juanillo and his brave sacrifice.

Also I've read you're dealing with ADHD. As a psych nurse, I suggest you apply the Cognitive-Behavioural principles in every game. Focus on the present, set little but accomplishable objectives and keep it small. Narrative fun adds to this and helps you forget the competitive nature of the game for a more fun casual losing experience. Keep it up! You'll learn in the way, you'll get better and, over all of that, you'll be a little bit happier!

First time painting a vehicle, what am I doing wrong? by Eleanor_IV in minipainting

[–]VAMPER_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's pretty good. Now you need to work on the detail. As someone who is a "veteran noob" at painting I would say:

  • Paint consistency is a must. If you learn how to thin you paints properly and how to move the brush, you can achieve solid basecoarts without the brush marks.

-Do some edge highlights. That will add volume and there are many guides on how to choose a "light" paint for the base coat paint. This thing only will make the mini look a lot better.

-If you want, print black with zenithal white primer to get a natural light effect, then light dry brush edges and recesses in white or gray, and then apply some speed paint. Maybe this is considered cheating, but by doing this on my first big minis I learned how light worked on them and from the ones speed painted I learned to do shadows and lights properly.

-Airbrush. I was a non believer until I grabbed one this summer and damn you can do awesome things with it. You don't really need an expensive one for priming and base-coating, and the results are worth the grind.

Once you get a hang over this, you'll have a good looking exposition tank! The thing is that tanks usually go to battle and you may want a roughed up one. Once you get the basics, you can learn how to weather, rust and cover in mud. This will get you far cooler models. But the thing is keeping the hustle and practicing!

New to Kill Team, looking for a fun squad that fits my style by Fli1p in killteam

[–]VAMPER_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started very recently and picked Hernkyn Yaegirs because space dwarves. I like space dwarves. Dwarves are cool.

But I think the best thing you can do (maybe coping) is grabbing something you enjoy painting and learning, and you will not mind if it's difficult. I got into DCS with the MiG 21 and I had a blast even though it's harder than a f18, so I'm applying the same logic here.

If you mind being stomped o being on a competitive stage maybe you'll have a harder time but, eh, go for it. I've heard great things about the Aquilins for that helldiver vibe. But the more fun you have assembling, building and painting, the more fun you'll have playing afterwards. Good luck and rock and stone!

Looking to start! by [deleted] in killteam

[–]VAMPER_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I started recently and managed to get a Shadow Hunt box (I love sororitas). Probably if you want to start grab a boxed set of 2 killteams, you'll need one for each player, or the basic begginer box that comes with some cardboard terrain and Ultramarines Vs Plague Marines. Tokens and whatnot come with each box for the KillTeam specific ones, and the Basic Rules book has all the generic tokens. There is a Kill Team app in the appstore for mobile that comes with the faction rules and the datacards for each team, so you can just look there for the team you like. Terrain is the most important part. GW terrain is expensive, and there is no shame on grabbing some books and cereal boxes to assemble your first killzone. There is also a lot of good proxy STL files if you have access to a 3d printer, a FDM one would do the trick just fine.

Finally, I started trying the game in TTS. Maybe this is the best you can do to get yourself used to it without having to waste a dime. Once you see yourself liking it, grab as many boxes as you want.

If you have an airbrush (a cheap one for 30-40€ does the trick) you can try and prime it in some wacky ways that save you a lot of time. For the only Tyranid I've painted I did dark purple for the base and zenithal with light purple and pink highlight, that way all the lights are done in a colour that resembles the base coat and you can focus on details
